I'm looking for anyone with Walsh ancestors in North Kerry.
My greatgrandfather, Michael WALSH
is related to the Walshes and Mulvihills of
Ballydonohoe (home of the writer Maurice Walsh). Michael Walsh married
Catherine Walsh in 1858; she was possibly from Duagh. The baptismal records
for their children give Galey and Blanemore as their address. Their children
are John, William, Edmond, Bridget & Thomas (twins), Mary, Michael and
Maurice. Only Maurice seems to have stayed and raised a family in Ireland.
The places I've mentioned are all in the outskirts of Listowel.
My grandfather Thomas emigrated as a teenager through Canada -- supposedly
he had relatives there. He also changed his name to WELCH -- before
settling in Syracuse, NY.

In 1841 Michael WALSH was born in
Dungarven, Waterford, Ireland to John and
Mary (BARRY) WALSH. His parents died in the potato famine. In 1854 Michael
and his older sister, Kate, left Ireland for the US. They settled in Malden
Massachusetts as Michael and Kate WELSH. The story is that they had to
change the name since there was a limit to the number of Irish coming into
the country. I have quite a bit of history from Michael--in 1861 he
enlisted in the army. Do any of your visitors have ideas on
how to go about locating more info on the WELSH family?

I am researching my mothers family tree and find that my g-grandmother
was called Mary Anne WALSH.
I expected to find that she came from
Ireland, but find that she was born in Darwen, Lancashire. I expected to
find that her father Croft WALSH [1801-1883] to be Irish, but find
that he was also born in Darwen. His father was called Henry WALSH and
married Sarah Croft in Darwen in 1787. There seem to be rather a lot of
Walsh's in Darwen, and they all seem to attend the Chapel of the
Independent Dissenters.

I am doing research on my great grandfather,
John WALSH, b.March 18, 1845
in Hayestown, Taghmon, Co. Wexford, Ireland. His parents names I believe

he married Ellen DRISCOLL and settled in Huron Co., Ohio. He died June
19, 1933 in Bellevue Ohio.
I would like to find out more about his parents and siblings who may
have stayed in Ireland. John Walsh's obituary stated that he was
survived by a nephew John Purcell in Ireland and another nephew, Matthew
Busher in Sydney, Australia. If anyone can help with this family, it

I am looking for any information pertaining to
Patrick Frederick WALSH or
his father Patrick WALSH (may be Patrick W. Walsh). Patrick Fredrick
Walsh was born in Ireland around 1839 or 1840. I have a citizenship
document for a Patrick W. Walsh, which may have been his father, that is
dated 1865 in Hudson County, New Jersey. Patrick Fedrick Walsh may have
served in the Union Army duing the Civil War. After the Civil War, P.F.
Walsh moved to Galveston, Texas. There, on 30 Jan. 1868, P.F. Walsh
married Margaret (Gretchen) SCHOLL WARREN. She had been previously
married to Mr. Edward Warren, killed in the Civil War. The children of
P.F. Walsh and Margeret were: MARY ELLEN WALSH, Katerine Walsh, James
Walsh, Antonio Walsh, and Patrick Walsh. The Warren children were:
Annie, Edward, Fredrick, and Margaret. I am a decendent of Mary Ellen
Walsh. I do not know when P.F. Walsh died. I was able to locate the
grave of his wife, daughter, both in Galveston, Texas, but had no luck
with his. Any information regarding this family line would be greatly
appreciated.

My ancestor is Bridget WALSH who
emigrated from Co. Mayo, Ireland to the US in the 1850's. According to a
family member (age 98!!!), Bridget was one of
four young women and four young men to emigrate at that time through the
sponsorship of an RC church to get them away from the famine conditions in
Ireland. She came to the anthracite coal regions of PA (Middle Creek, I
think), and there married Martin Donahue, one of the 4 young men to come
over with that group.
Any info welcome!! Can e-mail at

This is a long-shot. While tracing the HOLDEN family of Co. Kilkenny,
Ireland, I came across a reference to the HOLDEN name being a early synonym
of WALSH, according to an Irish surname book. When I was in Ireland (Co.
Kilkenny) I asked a HOLDEN there to direct me to the "family" cemetery. He
directed me to a place called "Ballymeale." After searching for 1/2 hour I
gave up looking for HOLDENs, but I did note a large number of WALSH graves
in this cemetery.
If anyone has come across a HOLDEN connection, I would be interested in your
information. Take care, all you Walshes out there!
