Daughter of John WALSH and Margaret BUTLAND (probably from Ireland). Married John Joseph POWER and lived the majority of her life in Newfoundland. Had several children, to include son Richard and daughters Bertha, Marion and Sara; Sara Power is my grandmother. Would appreciate any information that can be provided.

10/21/97 - I am searching for my family founding father, Patrick Kieran WALSH, Emmigatrated to America in the mid 19th century, attained the rank of Captain in the Union army and we believe he founded the Irish America Magazine in order to raise funds for the Irish trying to liberate Ireland from the British. He fled Ireland with a bounty on his head of 1000 pound sterling. He stowed away on an English boat and settled in Cleveland, OH. He was buried in a cemetery which was downtown Cleveland, St. Mary's, we think. The Irish Americans erected a life size statue at his grave. The stone pedestal read Captain Patric K. Walsh. Does the Irish America Magazine still exist? and what is the best way to start my search?
The descendants of Capt. Walsh included son, John Francis, who was a postmaster at Falls City, NE, and lived in Humboldt, NE. John Francis WALSH had a son who was also named Patrick Kieran WALSH, born in 1890.
Thanks for any help,
Robert J. (Bob) Walsh - Email knobbyw@prodigy.net
10/18/97 - The following information was given to me by an aunt. I am looking for any information on this branch of the Walsh family. " My grandmother, Ellen WALSH, was born around 1854 in Douglastown, Gaspe. The Walsh family had been shipwrecked on their way to Canada from Ireland and managed to get ashore on the Gaspe peninsula. There is a whole colony of Irish descendants living there since, Rooney's, Donaghue's. Ellen Walsh had three sisters, Katie, Elizabeth and Margaret. There was also a brother, Isaac WALSH. Isaac Walsh lived his final years in Port Arthur, Ontario and died in 1932. We know of a Dorinda (Walsh) McCabe who was a first cousin of Ellen Walsh's, so there must have been another son. Ellen Walsh also had relatives in the Ottawa area by the name of Behan. Ellen Walsh married George EDGE, probably at Ottawa. The Edge family lived at Fitzroy Harbour for many years. Does anyone know of this shipwreck near Gaspe? I would appreciate any information about this line of Walshs.

10/10/97 - Hello. I am seeking information on one of my ancestors named Margaret WALSH. Her father was Thomas Walsh. She came to America through Canada in about 1859. She came here with an Uncle whom she got separated from during this time and someone from the immigration service took her in. She met my ggggrandfather I think either in New York or Detroit Michigan, this is unclear at this point. They were soon married and took up residence in Lapeer County Michigan. She was born December 22 1842 in Limerick Ireland and died Jan 4 1898 in Lapeer Michigan. She and her husband Charles Henry SINN from Hagnaw Prussia are both buried in Mt Elliott cemetary in Detroit Michigan.
I have not been able to find any information about either of their parents. Charles' maternal aunt we think because of writings in the family bible was a Margarite von Ende married to the Krupp family and having one daughter named Bertha. Charles and Margaret had 5 children, William John, (a priest) in Lapeer also buried in Mt Elliott, Fredrick William, Caroline Rose, Charles II, and Thomas Hermon. It would be wonderful to find a link here, I am actively looking on the net through Family Tree Maker and all other resourses that I have. If anyone can point me in a direction, and can find a link I have a lot of information about the tree that I will gladly share.
Sincerely, Francis Murphy

9/15/97 - James WALSH, Coal Miner (son of John Walsh (then deceased and the current target of my own researches)) and Margaret ROBSON, Farm Labourer (daughter of Robert Robson also deceased) on 10th February 1908 in the Registry Office, Morpeth, County of Northumberland. Witnesses Andrew Birzelt and Michael Carr. Details from Certified Copy of Marriage Certificate.
Apparently both Roman Catholics, but married in Registry Office because of the scandal of Margaret being pregnant (with my father John William) who was born on 15th March 1908.
What little family knowledge exists suggests that the family hails from Ireland (either James' generation, or perhaps his father) with a relationship (blood or marriage isn't clear) to William Ferguson Massey, b Limavady 26/3/1856 and later New Zealand's longest serving Prime Minister (1912-1925). If the relationship is accurate, this suggests a link to Limavady or nearby at that time.

9/11/97 - James WALSH, born 1833 in Galway, Ireland - Married to Honora FLANNIGAN born 1830 in Galway, Ireland.
Migrated to United States, and was living in Louisville, Kentucky in 1857. From Louisville, Kentucky came to San Francisco, California, and was living in Vallejo, California between 1871 and 1875. Died in Vallejo, California in 1898.
James became a Naturalized Citizen of the USA on April 26, 1871 in Louisville, Kentucky.
I was told (but do not have anything other than my grandmother's story to base this on), that James came from a wealthy, and possibly titled family in Galway. Honora Flannigan supposedly was their upstairs maid. James and Honora fell in love, but the family banished them from Ireland. I do not know when they came to the USA.
They had the following children: Mary Walsh (Lawrence); Margaret Walsh (Waters), William Joseph Walsh (died in 1900 in Vallejo, California), and Annie Walsh (never married).
I am trying to find information on James' parents and any family he left in Ireland.
Email: Gail D. Geddes.

9/9/97 - My name is Michael Walsh and all of my roots come from the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. My father was George and his sister was Germaine. Their father was John James Leo Walsh, but he went by Leo most of his life. Leo had several siblings: William, Genivieve, Helen and Stella. Leo's father was John P. Walsh and he married Josephine Simmons. John P.'s father was William Walsh and came from Monkstown, County Cork and he married Mary Jane Burke from Killkee, County Clare. Tracing down the sibling information has been a challenge, as well as finding out more about William and Mary and when they came to the US, etc.

9/5/97 - Michael WALSH, seeking any information about history, relatives, verification of dates/places, etc.
Michael WALSH was born April, 1896 on Flinder's River, Queensland, Australia. He did not go to school at all since it was 40 miles away. Before WW1 he left Australia to work as a cabin boy on a sailing ship. He learned navigation and seamanship there and then became mate on an English schooner. After this, he went whaling in Montevideo and South Georgia, worked as foreman in mines in South America, sailed to France on vessel Acacia for 2 1/2 years as second mate, joined crews of Commonwealth and Finnish ships until he came to Canada in 1923 on the vessel "Pathfinder". He worked on Canada Steamship Lines vessels. In 1936/37 he met and married Alice LeClair, of Port Arthur, Ontario, Canada, who also worked on CSL boats as a maid. They were married in a civil ceremony either in an American port (Ashtabula, Ohio? or by Ship's Master) and remarried in October, 1939, in the Roman Catholic rite in Port Arthur. At Christmas, 1946, he left Canada Steamship Lines and worked as a steeplejack in Toronto, Canada for two summers and as hard hat diver for the Toronto, Canada Harbour Commission. For two years after that he painted and repaired houses. Nothing known of him from that date.
