My grandfather is Leonard William Walsh,
he was born on 14 December 1902
at Fall River, Massachusetts. The birth was recorded in 1905 which does
leave some uncertainty as to whether he lied about his age to join the
Merchant Marine as a teen-ager. His father was called Bill, although my
grandfather claims he is his father's namesake. His mother was Clara
HEWITSON. His father is believed to have emigrated from Ireland, but
when is unknown. My grandfather's siblings, also believed to have been
born in Massachusetts, are Mary Ann, born on February 1, 1901, a sister
referred to both as Nora and Clara who burned to death when only a few
years old; and possibly two brothers believed to be named William and
Albert respectively.
Leonard describes a life as a teenager in the
Merchant Marine along the Great Lakes. He spent much time in Ontario,
Canada, and married Marie Edna Parent at Port Mcnichol, Ontario Canada
on August 14, 1923. The entire family is Roman Catholic. The family
"legend" is Aunt Annie Smith who is reported to have been a fur
trapper/trader probably in far northeast U.S. or in Canada. It is
unknown if she is of Walsh or Hewitson lineage.
We are trying very hard
to find some Walsh connections. About 1926, Leonard and Marie Edna
settled in Detroit, Michigan, which is where both of them died. All
family connections that we know of are still in Massachusetts. Grandad
was very secretive about his family, we know he had one love child from
his teen years who goes by the last name of Knight and is believed to
still live in Massachusetts.
Please contact AnnMarie at
[email protected] if you have any leads. We are particularly looking
for confirmation of my grandfather's father's name, date of birth of
both of his parents, marriage date, sibling information for him and his
parents, and when this Walsh branch first came to North America from
Ireland.

I am trying to find info about my grandfather/mother who are buried in
this area of Sligo. His name is Patrick WALSH,
born 1876, died 1954. His wife
was Mary LEHANEY Walsh, born 1872, died 1955. My father along with 7 other
siblings were also born there. I believe they attended the Immaculate
Conception church in their town. It is definitely Sligo Co. and not Co
Leitrum. I know the Walsh land bordered Connaught?? Another name that
comes up is Drumshambo in Co Leitrim, the nearest large town from where
they came from. My aunt told me that they came from the town of
Arrigna - more of a cross roads rather than a town. I believe they are
buried in Sligo cemetery. I have a picture of the head stone which shows
a different family - Stephen Walsh, died 1893, but that is another story.
Only info on burial is that a head stone has been placed on the grave with
the name Walsh from Australia - over the top of their headstone.
Childrens' names were as follows - Patrick, Thomas, Katherine (Catherine),
John, Mary (Agnes) Martin, Michael, Frank. Michael might not have ever
emigrated the USA.
I'm sort of at a dead end because no one is alive that I can talk too.

I'm trying to find info on my husband's grandfather,
Thomas Francis WALSH.
He was born in Ireland, where he was the caretaker of an estate. One day,
he was caught fishing on the property, and was being sent to Australia. He
jumped ship, and came to America, instead.
He married Maria Power, and they lived in Quincy, MA. They had four
children. John Joseph, Mary Jeanne, Joseph and Alice.
He died in the early 1970's in a nursing home in Braintree, MA. I was also
told that he may have had a brother who lived in Australia.
Any info would be greatly appreciated. -- Barbara

My only clue to my ancestors is a letter written by
Michael and Johanna WALSH of Knockmahon,
County Waterford to their only son [Name not
mentioned] written in 1871 and says the son had come to Ausralia 8 or9 years
before [or they had not heard from him in all that time!]. The son had a son
Michael, various cousins in Australia were also mentioned.
Is there a resource for emmigration to Australia I can follow up?

Walsh relatives or other families from Knockmahon or Bonmahon county
Waterford who emigrated to Australia or America in 1900's

My GGF John E. WELCH (WALSH) was born
on June 19, 1836 in Boston.
Son of Edward and I believe Margaret Welch both born in Ireland c,
1802-1805. One brother Michael born in Boston in 1845, and a sister
Ellen (DOB unsure) also born in Boston.
John E. married Margaret Scannell (Scanlon) in Boston in March 1857.
They had eight children...five survived to adults. They moved to NYC
about 1867. The last child born, Francis Walsh born in NYC in 1871, was
my grandfather..
John E. used WELCH and WALSH interchangably throughout his life...
Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated.

I am researching my husband's family. His grandfather,
Patrick Daniel WALSH, was born in Galway,
Ireland. He arrived in this country about 1878 or 1880, with his mother,
Bridget Griffen WALSH, and his three brothers, James, John, and Peter.
He later married Mary Ann FOLAN, of Keyport, NJ. If you have any
information on any of these people, I would be delighted to hear from you.
Thank you, Joan Walsh

My name is Kenneth W. Walsh, my parents are Joseph P. WALSH and Judith
Mae PARKER of Lyndhurst, NJ. My fathers parents are Joseph E. Walsh
(11/24/03-09/26/90) and Marion Doherty (01/18/06-10/17/94) of the
Carbondale/Pittston area of Scranton, PA. I am looking for information on
my grandfathers parents: John WALSH
and Sarah BARRETT. They lived in the Scranton area at the turn of the
century and had nine children: Joseph E. WALSH (my grandfather),
John Walsh, Thomas Walsh, Michael Walsh, Mary Walsh-Gilroy, Irene Walsh
Ferick, Alma Walsh Foley, Julia Walsh Killian, and Sadie Walsh.
I believe that my Great Grand Parents located to the area from Ireland.
In the late 1800's. But I,m not certain of this. My Grandmother
(Marion Doherty) I believe was born in the Scranton, Pa area, but her
parents came from the Silgo area of Ireland.

My name is Neal Griffiths. My great grandmothers maiden name was
Ellen Walsh. She was born in Waterford,
Ireland in 1866 left for New Zealand at the age of 12, married Parick
O'HALLORAN on the 6th March 1888, at St. Benedict's Church Newtown, N.Z.
He was born in Limerick Ireland, and was an officer in the Permant
Artillery. They had 5 children: two boys and three girls, the youngest
being my grandmother Winifred O'Halloran d.o.b,21/6/1900, died 20/6/1993.
She married Percival Hubert Hickey in N.Z. on the 19 Jun 1924. He like my
grandmother were both born in N.Z. Francis Joseph HICKEY was born in
Belfast. I could go on about the rest of the lost family and cousins.
Ellen Walsh was first cousin to Frederick CODY, as well as the bushranger

My great-great grandfather Thomas WALSH, a blacksmith in
Ireland arrived in this country on the SS Cambria, into Boston on July
30, 1850. His son, also Thomas Walsh, born in Ireland had his first
son, John Walsh, born in Wisconsin in 1859. They were then on
a farm in Dodge County, Lowell Twp, Wisconsin. Another son, my
grandfather. Frank Walsh, was born in Chicago where they
had moved (returned?) on Feb 12, 1865. We have no idea what
happened to John Walsh who was said to be still alive in 1935, or
what descendants he may have had. Another sibling was George Walsh
who died in Chicago in 1947. george had been a "Floor Walker'" at
Marshall Fields in Chicago. Buries in Calvary Cemetary in Evanston,
IL. Do you know of any of these people?

Since San Francisco birth records were destroyed in 1906, I am unable to
find her birth records or parents names. I tried the 1880 census but I
was unable to find the family. She had a brother John (Jack), a sister
Maude who married a Sullivan & a sister Margaret who married a Relmeger.
