field until they left.
I guess I would like to find out what happened to Patrick's sons: James and
John from his first wife and the children of Edward and Alice from his
second. Also Michael and George from his second wife. I have a lot more

- Seeking any living relatives of myself, Philip Anthony WALSH, now
of Sydney, Australia. Would dearly love to contact anyone related to the
Walshes listed below.
My fathers name was John WALSH,
it was said by some his middle name was
Joseph, but of this we are not sure. He was born on the 12/7/1913... in
I think Garston, Liverpool. On his birth certificate it states:
Reg. District West Derby
Sub. District Wavertree
John's parents were Michael WALSH
& Margaret (formerly Moore or Kelly).
My father had brothers and sisters as follows:
Martin Walsh
Sarah Walsh
Thomas Walsh
Patrick Walsh
Peggy Walsh
Joan Walsh
plus 1 brother who died who's name we do not know.
Martin was apparently a Boson on the original Queen Mary or Queen
Elizabeth, not sure which. My father had an eldest son, Raymond John Walsh
born in Mulgrave St L/Pool 1951, and a son, Terence Michael Walsh,
Oxford St L/Pool 1953.
My father John WALSH would have last been seen in the UK at approx Feb '62.
Although my Father John Walsh was born in L/pool, of this I am 99 percent
sure, he was Irish by blood, all his family were from Cork. Also I have a
desciption of HIS father Michael, apparently a big man with pure white
hair and a big white beard. Apparently my father also had a first wife,
probably called May and or Patricia.
Please contact Phil Walsh.

I am searching for my family founding father,
Patrick Kieran WALSH,
Emmigatrated to America in the mid 19th century, attained the rank of
Captain in the Union army and we believe he founded the Irish America
Magazine in order to raise funds for the Irish trying to liberate Ireland
from the British. He fled Ireland with a bounty on his head of 1000 pound
sterling. He stowed away on an English boat and settled in Cleveland, OH.
He was buried in a cemetery which was downtown Cleveland, St. Mary's, we
think. The Irish Americans erected a life size statue at his grave. The
stone pedestal read Captain Patric K. Walsh. Does the Irish America
Magazine still exist? and what is the best way to start my search?
The descendants of Capt. Walsh included son, John Francis, who was a
postmaster at Falls City, NE, and lived in Humboldt, NE. John Francis WALSH
had a son who was also named Patrick Kieran WALSH, born in 1890.
Thanks for any help,

The following information was given to me by an aunt. I am
looking for any information on this branch of the Walsh family. " My
grandmother, Ellen WALSH,
was born around 1854 in Douglastown, Gaspe. The Walsh family had been
shipwrecked on their way to Canada from Ireland and managed to get
ashore on the Gaspe peninsula. There is a whole colony of Irish descendants
living there since, Rooney's, Donaghue's. Ellen Walsh had three sisters,
Katie, Elizabeth and Margaret. There was also a brother, Isaac WALSH.
Isaac Walsh lived his final years in Port Arthur, Ontario and died in 1932.
We know of a Dorinda (Walsh) McCabe who was a first cousin of Ellen Walsh's,
so there must have been another son. Ellen Walsh also had relatives in the
Ottawa area by the name of Behan. Ellen Walsh married George EDGE,
probably at Ottawa. The Edge family lived at Fitzroy Harbour for many
years. Does anyone know of this shipwreck near Gaspe? I would appreciate
any information about this line of Walshs.

Hello. I am seeking information on one of my ancestors named
Margaret WALSH. Her father was Thomas
Walsh. She came to America through Canada in about 1859. She came here
with an Uncle whom she got separated from during this time and someone
from the immigration service took her in. She met my ggggrandfather
I think either in New York or Detroit Michigan, this is unclear at this
point. They were soon married and took up residence in Lapeer County
Michigan. She was born December 22 1842 in Limerick Ireland and died
Jan 4 1898 in Lapeer Michigan. She and her husband Charles Henry SINN
from Hagnaw Prussia are both buried in Mt
Elliott cemetary in Detroit Michigan.
I have not been able to find any
information about either of their parents. Charles' maternal aunt we
think because of writings in the family bible was a Margarite von Ende
married to the Krupp family and having one daughter named Bertha.
Charles and Margaret had 5 children, William John,
(a priest) in Lapeer also buried in Mt Elliott, Fredrick William,
Caroline Rose, Charles II, and Thomas Hermon. It would be wonderful to
find a link here, I am actively looking on the net through Family Tree
Maker and all other resourses that I have. If anyone can point me in a
direction, and can find a link I have a lot of information about the tree
that I will gladly share.
Sincerely, Francis Murphy

James WALSH, Coal Miner
(son of John Walsh (then deceased and the current target of my own
researches)) and Margaret ROBSON, Farm Labourer (daughter of Robert Robson
also deceased) on 10th February 1908 in the Registry Office, Morpeth,
County of Northumberland. Witnesses Andrew Birzelt and Michael Carr.
Details from Certified Copy of Marriage Certificate.
Apparently both Roman Catholics, but married in Registry Office because of
the scandal of Margaret being pregnant (with my father John William) who
was born on 15th March 1908.
What little family knowledge exists suggests that the family hails from
Ireland (either James' generation, or perhaps his father) with a
relationship (blood or marriage isn't clear) to William Ferguson Massey, b
Limavady 26/3/1856 and later New Zealand's longest serving Prime Minister
(1912-1925). If the relationship is accurate, this suggests a link to
Limavady or nearby at that time.

- James WALSH, born 1833 in
Galway, Ireland - Married to Honora FLANNIGAN born 1830 in Galway, Ireland.
Migrated to United States, and was living in Louisville, Kentucky in 1857.
From Louisville, Kentucky came to San Francisco, California, and was living
in Vallejo, California between 1871 and 1875. Died in Vallejo, California
in 1898.
James became a Naturalized Citizen of the USA on April 26, 1871 in
Louisville, Kentucky.
I was told (but do not have anything other than my grandmother's story to
base this on), that James came from a wealthy, and possibly titled family in
Galway. Honora Flannigan supposedly was their upstairs maid. James and
Honora fell in love, but the family banished them from Ireland. I do not
know when they came to the USA.
They had the following children: Mary Walsh (Lawrence); Margaret Walsh
(Waters), William Joseph Walsh (died in 1900 in Vallejo, California), and
Annie Walsh (never married).
I am trying to find information on James' parents and any family he left in
Ireland.

My name is Michael Walsh and all of my roots come from the Minneapolis/St.
Paul area. My father was George and his sister was Germaine. Their father
was John James Leo Walsh, but he went by Leo most of his life. Leo had
several siblings: William, Genivieve, Helen and Stella. Leo's father was
John P. Walsh and he married Josephine Simmons. John P.'s father was
William Walsh and came from Monkstown,
County Cork and he married Mary Jane Burke from Killkee, County Clare.

Well to start this off I will introduce myself. I am Audean Walsh and I am a
decendent of John and Letitia Walsh
of Canaan Airdes Ireland. I have recently started searching for my
family "roots" and have discovered some difficulty in finding information
from Ireland, so I am hoping someone here may be able to assist.
John and Letitia Walsh (nee Hewit) lived in Canaan Airdes near town of
Moat, County Lanford, Ireland. John died in Ireland and Letitia his widow,
emmigrated to Canada in 1848 with her son Robert and his family. She died
in Bearbrook Ontario, Canada in 1863. Anyone with information on this
family or persons please contact me. Thanks to all who read this
and who can help me on my "quest".

- Michael WALSH,
seeking any information about history, relatives, verification of
dates/places, etc.
Michael WALSH was born April, 1896 on Flinder's River, Queensland,
Australia. He did not go to school at all since it was 40 miles away.
Before WW1 he left Australia to work as a cabin boy on a sailing ship.
He learned navigation and seamanship there and then became mate on an
English schooner. After this, he went whaling in Montevideo and South
Georgia, worked as foreman in mines in South America, sailed to France on
vessel Acacia for 2 1/2 years as second mate, joined crews of Commonwealth
and Finnish ships until he came to Canada in 1923 on the vessel
"Pathfinder". He worked on Canada Steamship Lines vessels. In 1936/37 he met
and married Alice LeClair, of Port Arthur, Ontario, Canada, who also
worked on CSL boats as a maid. They were married in a civil ceremony either
in an American port (Ashtabula, Ohio? or by Ship's Master) and remarried in
October, 1939, in the Roman Catholic rite in Port Arthur. At Christmas,
1946, he left Canada Steamship Lines and worked as a steeplejack in Toronto,
Canada for two summers and as hard hat diver for the Toronto, Canada
Harbour Commission. For two years after that he painted and repaired
houses. Nothing known of him from that date.

I'm looking for anyone with Walsh ancestors in North Kerry.
My greatgrandfather, Michael WALSH
is related to the Walshes and Mulvihills of
Ballydonohoe (home of the writer Maurice Walsh). Michael Walsh married
Catherine Walsh in 1858; she was possibly from Duagh. The baptismal records
for their children give Galey and Blanemore as their address. Their children
are John, William, Edmond, Bridget & Thomas (twins), Mary, Michael and
Maurice. Only Maurice seems to have stayed and raised a family in Ireland.
The places I've mentioned are all in the outskirts of Listowel.
My grandfather Thomas emigrated as a teenager through Canada -- supposedly
he had relatives there. He also changed his name to WELCH -- before
settling in Syracuse, NY.

In 1841 Michael WALSH was born in
Dungarven, Waterford, Ireland to John and
Mary (BARRY) WALSH. His parents died in the potato famine. In 1854 Michael
and his older sister, Kate, left Ireland for the US. They settled in Malden
Massachusetts as Michael and Kate WELSH. The story is that they had to
change the name since there was a limit to the number of Irish coming into
the country. I have quite a bit of history from Michael--in 1861 he
enlisted in the army. Do any of your visitors have ideas on
how to go about locating more info on the WELSH family?

married Sarah Croft in Darwen in 1787. There seem to be rather a lot of
Walsh's in Darwen, and they all seem to attend the Chapel of the

Walsh was born in Ireland around 1839 or 1840. I have a citizenship
document for a Patrick W. Walsh, which may have been his father, that is
dated 1865 in Hudson County, New Jersey. Patrick Fedrick Walsh may have
served in the Union Army duing the Civil War. After the Civil War, P.F.
Walsh moved to Galveston, Texas. There, on 30 Jan. 1868, P.F. Walsh
married Margaret (Gretchen) SCHOLL WARREN. She had been previously
married to Mr. Edward Warren, killed in the Civil War. The children of
P.F. Walsh and Margeret were: MARY ELLEN WALSH, Katerine Walsh, James

My ancestor is Bridget WALSH who
emigrated from Co. Mayo, Ireland to the US in the 1850's. According to a
family member (age 98!!!), Bridget was one of
four young women and four young men to emigrate at that time through the
sponsorship of an RC church to get them away from the famine conditions in
Ireland. She came to the anthracite coal regions of PA (Middle Creek, I
think), and there married Martin Donahue, one of the 4 young men to come
over with that group.

This is a long-shot. While tracing the HOLDEN family of Co. Kilkenny,
Ireland, I came across a reference to the HOLDEN name being a early synonym
of WALSH, according to an Irish surname book. When I was in Ireland (Co.

of Nora E. according to the 1920 census of Kansas City Missouri. I am
doing research on my Father, who was Thomas (Teddy) Bonesteel (Bonsteel),
son of James and a Florence M., born in 1906? The census of 1910 for Kansas
City Missouri state that James and Nora had been married for 4 years.
I am hoping that by finding Bluebell it might give me info on Nora so I
can fill in some of the blanks on James. Bluebell was not listed with her
mother on the 1910 census, so perhaps she was with another member of her
family. This is a very interesting search.
Thank you. Mary Lou Bonstell Taylor

Hi! My name is Robert BURNS. Son of Joseph John BURNS who is the
son of Daniel James BURNS. I have heard most of my life, that we are
related by marriage, to the WALSH family. The only problem is I don't know
how. My Father used to say they a man named WALSH, who held the title or
called himself 'The Worlds Strongest Man',
was his cousin. I have actually seen him on TV many years ago.
Currently I am trying to trace my family tree with no results as my
Grandfather died in 1917 and my Father died in 1986. He siblings
my Aunt and my Uncle have also passed away.
My Father was born in Philadelphia Pa. His Father Daniel, was
originally from Baltimore Md. and had, I think, two brothers,
William and J.J. and a sister Mary. My Grand Mother was Caroline
(Carry) Schneider Burns.
If any Walsh's can see a connection here, I would appreciate a
response as my search has been futile so far. I can be emailed at:

William WALSH was apparently involved in a murder during the
Rebellion.Various documents claim his birthplace (or place of abode) as
either Hackets Town or Rathdrum. The murder was committed at Rathhangan
co. Kildare. The trial was held at Athy co. Kildare. William was
sentenced to death, commuted to transportation for life. He left Wicklow
aboard the Atlas in 1802. I'm interested in leads to his Irish family.

I am curently research background material for an archaeological investigation of a late medieval castle
located in the town of Youghal, Co. Cork, Ireland.
The castle is currently known as Tynte's castle, however, it is reputiated to have been built by the WALSH family in the 15th century. Here I have hit a deadend as to the WASLH contribution to the history of this structure.
Realising it is a very long shot, I wonder if you could post this query on any relevant list, in the hope that
I may be able to shed some light on the mystery.

Catherine WALSH or WELCH.
This woman's parents were Michael and Bridget (maiden name KELLEY). I have seen the last name spelled the three different ways but hope that I can still
intrude into this website. There was at least another child in this family,
Michael. Catherine came to Natick, Massachusetts in the early 1860's and lived
with a farming family for a few years. She married in Sept 1867 in Watertown,
Mass to Thomas BURKE, whi was born c.1835 in Mayo Co, son of Anthony and Mary
Burke. Thomas had also come to Natick as early as 1855 and worked in a shoe
factory. He died in 1873 with three young children: Walter, Katherine, and
Michael. The 1880 Federal census shows Bridget and Michael Walsh living in
Natick, perhaps to help their daughter with the three young children. Both
Bridget and Michael died in 1886. Their son Michael by then had moved to
California, address unknown. Catherine lived until 1929. She and her parents
are buried at St Patrick's Cemetery in Natick. Any info on this family in Mayo
will be appreciated, including the 1841 baptism record, place of residence,
etc. My name is Ed Burke 130 Parker Road, Framingham, Mass 01702 or

year of his death, but it was in Bridgeport. We were always told that this
Walsh family was in Albany, NY before they came to Bridgeport. There was
also a gentleman named Patrick WALSH who was probably my grandfather's
uncle; we have a daguerrotype photo of him from the 1860s or 70s in front
of his bootmaker's or cobbler's shop said to be in Hartford, CT. I would
love any suggestions or guidance to learn more about the origins of my

I'm looking for the ancestors of Catherine WALSH,
born in 1839. She married Matthew WINNE, probably in Nevada, about 1865.
Their daughter, Mary Winnie, was born in Gold Hill, Storey Co, NV on 22 Mar
1869. In the 1880 census in Gold Hill, Catherine's birthplace was listed
as New York State; however, since the Winne family moved west from New
York in the 1850s, and Catherine was not with them at that time, this may
be an error. The Winne family was in Napa, CA, near San Francisco, at the
time of the 1860 census, and there was a Catherine Walsh of the same age
listed as a domestic servant and a native of Ireland in San Francisco in
the 1860 census.

Hello - I am doing Walsh research for a neighbor. The only thing we have
so far is:
Anne WALSH (about 1825-1903)
married Lawrence CANTWELL (1827-1897).
Some of the other lines (such as O'Neill) go back to County Kilkenny, IRL
so we can assume that possibly Walsh did too? I have searched the
Griffith's Valuation index, and there are Walsh's there from Kilkenny.
Does this ring any bells? Their daughter Catherine Cantwell (1872-1921)
married Michael C. Leonard (1869-1930). Michael Leonard is buried in
Calvary Cemetery, Queens, NY. Michael's son Edward Leonard married
Vivian O'Neill. The O'Neill's were from County Kilkenny, IR.
(possibly some Walsh's there too)

I have been looking for some Walsh ancestors. My great grandmother was
Lily WALSH, who married Tom MCLAUGHLIN. She was born in 1813, Married Tom
McLaughlin prior to emigrating from Ireland to America in about 1831. She
had one daughter before they left Ireland. Her father was Thomas WALSH,
and her Mother's maiden name was Lillie HOPKINS. They immigrated to
America at the same time. I am not yet good at searching on the web.
