(1874-1953)
Born in Trenton, N.J., August 29, 1874. Member of New
Jersey state assembly, 1910; U.S. Representative from New Jersey,

- Walsh, Antoine Joseph (1703-1763)
son
of Philip Walsh and Anne Whyte, was created Earl Walsh by James III in 1745,
after conveying Prince Charles Edward (Stuart Prince of Wales) to
Scotland aboard his ship, the Doutelle,
to attempt a descent on England.

- Walsh, David Ignatius (1872-1947)
Born in Massachusetts, November 11, 1872. Governor of Massachusetts,
1914-16; U.S. Senator from Massachusetts, 1919-25, 1926-47; defeated,
1924, 1946. Died June 11, 1947. Interment at St. John's
Cemetery, Lancaster, Mass.
- Walsh, Ed (May 14, 1881- May 26, 1959)
was a
professional baseball pitcher for the Chicago White Sox who holds the Major League
record for lowest lifetime ERA of 1.82. In 1906 he struck out a (then) record 12 in a World Series game.
In October, 1908 Addie Joss pitched a perfect game to stop Ed Walsh who won 40 in a
row that season, 2nd only to Jack Chesbro of 1904. In 1910 Ed pitched against Jack
Coombs through a 16 inning scoreless tie. He had a no-hitter against Boston on
August 27, 1911 in a 5-0 victory. Also in 1911 Ed stopped Ty Cobb's
40-game hitting streak. Big Ed Walsh pitched 57 career shutouts. In 1946 Ed was elected into the
Baseball Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee.
Ed's Story.
- Walsh, Edward (abt 1809- April 13, 1882)
, a native of Ireland,
came to America when nine years of age, and located, with his parents, in Quebec, where he was
apprenticed to a tobacconist. After completing the term of his indenture he went to Williamstown, Vt.,
where he married Mrs. Sarah Smith, a widow with three children, and, in 1834, came to this town and
located on road 43, where he died, April 13, 1882, aged seventy-three years. Mrs. Walsh, at the age
of eighty-one years, still resides on the old homestead. Their family of seven children are all living. Mr.
Walsh was a man universally esteemed, and was said to have been unusually well versed in history.

- Walsh, Emmett Michael (1862-1969)
Emmett Micahel Walsh was born March 6, 1892 in Beaufort, South Carolina.
At age 35 he became the youngest Bishop in the world. Emmett was Bishop of
Charleston, South Carolina from 1927 to 1949, and Bishop of Youngstown, Ohio
from 1949 TO 1968. Walsh College in Youngstown, Ohio is named for him.
He died March 16, 1968.

- Walsh, James Anthony (1867-1936)
son of James Walsh and Hanna Shea, was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts,
on February 24, 1867. He acted as spiritual father and co-founder of the
Maryknoll Sisters of St. Dominic. In 1933, Walsh was elected to the
episcopacy and named Titular Bishop of Siene. Interment at the chapel
crypt of the Seminary Building in Maryknoll, New York.

- Walsh, John
was a Corporal in Company D
of the 5th New York Cavalry during the Civil War. He was born in Ireland and
received the Congressional Medal of Honor. The citation for receiving this award
was for recapturing the flag of the 15th New Jersey Infantry.

- Walsh, Lawrence (1500's)
In 1588 he
compiled a pedigree of the Mayo Walshes, showing them to be descended from
Walynus, who accompanied Maurice FitzGerald to Ireland in 1169. Walynus'
brother, Barrett, is from whom descend the Barrett family of Mayo, where
they were lords of the Tirawley territory.
- Walsh, Maurice (18791964)
Born in County Kerry. The former customs officer, who wrote a novel which
was as the basis for the an Oscar-winning film "The Quiet
Man", whose cast included Maureen O'Hara and John Wayne.

- Walsh, Michael (181559)
was born near
Cork and came to America with his parents. He worked as a reporter in New
York City and wrote of the squalor and poverty he saw. He got the working
men to join the Spartan Association, which aimed to break the hold of
Tammany Hall. He was imprisoned twice for his anti-establishment speeches.

- Walsh, Peter [Pierre Woilsche] (1657-1716)
On 6/29/1714 at age 57, native of Feder [Fethard], County d’Abredan
[Tipperary], soldier of Sieur de Butler in the Irish Regiment of Galmoy,
where he served 23 years, as shown on his certificate, is maimed in two
fingers of the left hand from a gunshot which he received at the combat
of Luzzara which, added to his poor sight and other disabilities, make
him unfit for service. 26 February 1716, he died.

came from a
distinguished County Waterford family. He graduated from Trinity College,
Dublin, and was both a clergyman and an author, collaborating in writing
the book History of the City of Dublin. He was later rector at Finglas
vicarage in Dublin.

- Walsh, Thomas FitzAnthony (1200's)
Who was the Governor of Leinster in the 13th century. He built the
fortifications at Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny, fragments of which can still
be seen today, together with the near by Grenan Castle, now in ruins. That he was
really a Walsh is debatable.

was
Archbishop of Cashel in Count Tipperary, once the seat of the Munster Kings.
- Welch, Thomas (1700's)
was a pioneer
surveyor, appointed the first Registrar of Deeds for Norfolk County,
Ontario, Canada
in 1796; and, again, in 1800 became another first appointee, this time as
the Clerk of the Peace and Registrar of the Surrogate Court for the
newly-organized London District. In 1808, he tried to move his son into
the position, but it was not until 1810 that Francis Leigh Walsh became
the Registrar of Deeds; and his father moved on to become a Justice of
the Peace, and then Judge of the District and Surrogate Courts. Norfolk
County must hold a record for longevity in office.
For almost a century, the Walsh family, father and son, held the post as
County Registrar. Francis L. Walsh held office for an incredible
seventy-six years, until his death in 1884. He also served, during his
lifetime, as member of the Legislature, school trustee, surveyor,
conveyancer, and Justice of the Peace.
- Walsh, Thomas James (1859-1933)
Born in Two Rivers, Wis., June 12, 1859. Candidate for U.S.
Representative from Montana, 1906; U.S. Senator from Montana,
1913-33, 1933. Died on a train near Wilson, N.C., March 2, 1933,
while en route to Washington to accept appointment as U.S. Attorney
General. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery, Helena, Mont.

Born in Baltimore, Md. U.S. Representative from Maryland, 1851-53.
Died in Baltimore, Md., January 20, 1865. Interment at St. Paul's
Protestant Episcopal Cemetery, Baltimore, Md.
- Walsh, William (d. 1577)
was appointed Bishop of Meath in 1554. His refusal to conform to the
Anglican rite at the request of Queen Elizabeth I landed him in prison.
After his escape to France, the Pope ordered him to return to Ireland but
he instead went to Spain where he became Archbishop of Toledo.

convention, 1867; Presidential Elector from Maryland, 1872; U.S.
Representative from Maryland, 1875-79. Died in Cumberland, Md., May
