Died with his cousin Joseph Irl Hicks in an auto accident at the bridgeat Red Mill, Sugar Creek, in Shelby County, IL when returning fromplaying a basketball game in which they defeated Boggstown. The car hitthe abutment of the bridge over Sugar Creek, overturning the car andthrowing the occupants out. The bodies broke through ice and wererecovered some distance from where the accident occurred. Also in theaccident, but surviving was the driver, Wayne Holman, an instructor andCoach at Clark Township High School. There were 5 occupants of the car,only 2 cousins were killed.
