Page 9: Dr. Warren in his "Lincoln's Parentage and Childhood", page 8,describes the death of pioneer Abraham Lincoln:
"Abraham Lincoln, with his three sons, Mordecai, Josiah, and Thomas, wasbusily engaged in the field putting in a crop of corn. Without warningthey were attacked by two or three Indians. The father was killed at thefirst fusillade. Josiah, then thirteen years of age, started for Hughes'Station, half a mile away, where the family was then making their home inone of the fort's eight cabins. Mordecai and Thomas, aged fifteen and tenrespectively, made for a cabin near-by, which Abraham had erected andwhere the family would make their home as soon as safety would allow. AnIndian despising the ability of Mordecai's marksmanship stepped out ofthe thicket to secure the scalp of the paleface. Mordecai from within thecabin took aim at a silver pendant on the breast of the Indian andbrought him down. Josiah had reached the fort and warned the settlers, who started in pursuit of the redskins."
On page 297 he definitely fixes the time of this massacre as May, 1786,through the papers in a suit in the Nelson Circuit Court.
He is buried at Long Run Baptist Church, Jefferson Co., KY, of Floyd'sFork of Salt River.

E-Mail from Ed Steers
Here is what I have: Josiah (not Joshua) Lincoln married Catharine
Barlow on February 26, 1801 in Washington County, KY. Josiah was the
middle son of Captain Abraham Lincoln and older brother of Thomas Lincoln
(father of Abraham Lincoln). Hence Josiah was the uncle of Abraham Lincoln
and Catharine his aunt.

Catharine Barlow was daughter of Christopher and Barbara Barlow of
Washington County, KY. No dates exist for Catharine Barlow. They had six
children: Barbara, Thomas, Elizabeth, Nany (all born KY), Jacob, Catharine
(born Blur River, IN).

Hope this helps. Let me know your interest. Thanks. Ed Steers

I am getting a lot of information shortly about the family which Iwill send you after I get it and check it. I already have a great deal ofinformation but it is fragmentary, and possibly contains many errors, Iwant to check it before sending it.
If you will give me your address and/or phone # I will send thecurrent info to you by snail mail.
The main reason that I am interested in this branch of the family isto give it to Alta Who is going to supply me with more information thatprobably wont be of much intrest to you, but I will give it to you sotthat you can use what you want.
The reason I haven't gotten back to you sooner is Two fold, 1. I amworking long hours and haven't much time to work on this and 2. I had thewrong E-Mail address written down for you so when I did send you amessage it came right back to me 2 days later. (I missed the "L" [email protected] ) [Stupidity does NOT run in my family or else Icould never have caught it).
Let me know how things are going and I will get back to you as soonas I can. Donald R. Gallauher
