1755: Birth of Lewis Barlow , Culpeper Co, Virginia ,to Jacob (Barlow/Barler/Barlar) and Mary (Last name unknown).

1755: Birth of Judah Frances Smith (his wife to be)

1776: September, Lewis enlisted for the term of three years or during the war, in the state of Virginia, in the Company commanded by Cpt Michael Bowyer, in the Regiment commanded by Col James Wood, in the line of the State of Virginia, on the Continental Establishment. (3) Christopher Barlow stated he served 2 years with his brother Lewis in the Continental Service.

1777: (4)Muster roll: May through 10 June, assigned to Co B 12th Vir Reg't of foot commanded by Col James Wood. Remarks: Small Pox in Philadelphia. Company Pay: 6 Mar 77 to Jun 30 77, 3 months 24 days, pay per month 7 1/3 dollors. Rank was a Fifer

1777: (4)Muster roll: Jul 77 through 5 Aug 77, assigned to Co B 12th Vir Reg't of foot commanded by Col James Wood. Pay: Jul 77, 6 2/3 dollors both documents have an entry I can't read but on the pay call the entry is under casualties. Rank was a Private

1778: Roll 9 Sep 1778. Time of enlistment 10 Oct 1776, Time of service 2 years.

1778: 30 Oct, Abstract of pay due a part of the 8th Vir Reg't, who were discharged the 10th day of Oct, 1778, with mileage to the frontier of virginia, calculated at 400 miles; one day's pay for every 20 miles distance. Total amount of pay and mileage 26 2/3 dollors.

1782: (2) Lewis marries Judah Fances Smith in Virginia. (2) lived a short time after his service in Virginia and then moved to Kentucky

1783: (6) Born to Lewis and Judah is Jane in Washington, Kentucky

1785: 5 February, (6) Born to Lewis and Judah is Henry in Washington County, Kentucky

1787: (6) Born to Lewis and Judah is Blewford in Washington, Kentucky

1789: 4 August,(6) Born to Lewis and Judah is Jeremiah in Adair Co, Kentucky.

1795: Born to Lewis and Judah is Mary in Washington, Kentucky

1799: Born to Lewis and Judah is an unknown in Washington, Kentucky

1799: (1,2)October, Lweis was discharged from the sirvice in the state of New York.

1800 Census

1802: Born to Lewis and Judah is Elizabeth in Washington, Kentucky

1805: 13 Aug, Henry (son) married Mary Dawson 

1809: 3 October, Sarah, (dau) born 1792, married Benjamin Wheeler in Adair Co, Kentucky.

1810 Census

1811: 8 August,(6) Jeremiah, born 1789, married Mary Polly White in Adair Co, Kentucky

1815: Blewford, born 1787, married Elizabeth ?

1817: (2) John Dawson declares he sold Lewis Barlow 100 acres of land in Kentucky but made no deed.

1818: Lewis owned 100 acres, 3 horse beast, 4-5 head of cattle, cow and calf, a small lot of hogs and sheep, beauroe and cupboard and household furniture worth $51.00

1819: Lewis sold to Joseph Callison in Adair County, Kentucky 100 acres of land in said county.

1819: Apr, William Barlow helped Lewis (his dad) move from Kentucky and was paid $18.00. He also was paid $50.00 for landing a crop on Whitewater. “This paper was with his estate documents”

1820 Census

1820: March, Lewis sold 100 acres of land to Joseph Kelorson for $50.00 cash and $100.00 in horse.

1821: 5 November, Henry (son) born 1785 married Mahala Kinlo (second wife) in Washington County, Kentucky

1822: March, Lewis sold one horse to Joseph Bishop for $35.00 in work.

1822, March, Lewis sold one horse to John Dawson for $35.00 in work.

1824, September, Lewis sold one horse to William Barlow for $14.00 in trade

1830 Census

1830: 8 September, (1) Lewis personally appeared before a Judge of the Shelby Circuit Court, in open court, being a court of record for the county of Shelby, In.  The purpose was for his military pension. Lewis stated he was 75 years old, which would put his birth abt 1755.

1830: 8 September, (1) Lewis stated that he was a farmer but unable to pursue it.

1830: 8 September, (1) Lewis stated the number of his family is 4. Judah Barlow age 75, Elizabeth Barlow age 28 (cripple), George Barlow age abt 12, and Bluford Barlow age abt 10.

1830: 13 Nov, (2) Shelby County, Indiana, William (x) Barlow, John Dawson and Joseph Bishop declare they bought horses of Lewis Barlow.

1830: 8 September, (1) Lewis signed the document with an X.

1831: 20 Jan, (2) Adair County, Kentucky Joseph Callison of said county declares that in 1819 he purchased 100 acres is said county from Lewis Barlow. He obtained title to 1/2 of the land.

1832: 6 Nov, (2) John McDowell, age 73, of Indiana declares Lewis served in the same unit and served 2 years.

1832: 3 September, (2) Lewis declares he enlisted in Staunton, virginia (then living in Culpeper County) in Sept 1776. He was discharged at West Point, New York.

Note (2) Lewis was placed on the pension roll under the act of 1818. Certificate 21463 was issued but was supended in 1830)

 

1833: (5) Certificate of Pension, issued 4 April, 1833. Lewis collected #160.00. (pension application has Lewis Barton and later the (ton) in Barton was crossed out and (low) written over it) (2) was placed on the Indiana pension roll at $80.00 per annum under the act of 1832. Certificate was issued 9 Apr 1833.

1833: Letter dated 22 May 1833 is attempting to get the mistake in his name corrected. At the bottom of the letter the statement reads “ The old man is poor and very much need the money due him”

1836: Lewis dies in Indiana. (2) lived his last 12 years in Indiana.

1836: 27 Nov, An entry made in Shelby Co. Probate Order Book B 1836-1842 page 93 & 94 ,to identify Juda Barlow, widow of Lewis Barlow a Revolutionary War pensioner dtd 14 Aug, 1837 stated Lewis departed this life 27 Nov, 1836.

1837: 17 Apr, David Randolph submits an Inventory of the goods, _ _ _ _, money and effects of the personal estate of Lewis Barlow in the amount of $250.93.

1837: 16 Jun, David Randolph submits a sale bill for the estate of Lewis Barlow in the amount of $103.94

1837: 5 Oct, David Randolph received $5.00 for being in charge of making coffin.

1837: 6 Oct, David Randolph received $1.00 for publishing notice.

1839: 26 Jun, William and Jeremiah summoned to court in shelbyville on the second mon in August next, to testify on behalf of the Plaintiff (themselves) and David Randolph administrator of the defendant, Lewis Barlow.

1840: Judah F Smith Barlow dies in Shelby Co, Indiana

1850 Census

 

1858: 15 April, Blewford, born 1787, dies in Polk, Iowa

1862: 22 Jun, (6) Jeremiah married Judith Ann Melvins in Atchison Co, missouri

1868: 11 April, Henry, born 1785, died

1868: 19 April, Jeremiah died in Clay Twp, Adair, Missouri. Burried in Greenhill Cemetery
