Culpeper Co, Virginia ,to Jacob (Barlow/Barler/Barlar) and Mary (Last name
unknown).

1776: September, Lewis enlisted
for the term of three years or during the war, in the state of Virginia, in the
Company commanded by Cpt Michael Bowyer, in the Regiment commanded by Col James
Wood, in the line of the State of Virginia, on the Continental Establishment.
(3) Christopher Barlow stated he served 2 years with his brother Lewis in the Continental
Service.

due a part of the 8th Vir Reg't, who were discharged the 10th day of Oct, 1778,
with mileage to the frontier of virginia, calculated at 400 miles; one day's
pay for every 20 miles distance. Total amount of pay and mileage 26 2/3
dollors.

beauroe and cupboard and household furniture worth $51.00
1819: Lewis sold to Joseph
Callison in Adair County, Kentucky 100 acres of land in said county.
1819: Apr, William Barlow
helped Lewis (his dad) move from Kentucky and was paid $18.00. He also was paid
$50.00 for landing a crop on Whitewater. “This paper was with his estate
documents”

1820: March, Lewis sold 100
acres of land to Joseph Kelorson for $50.00 cash and $100.00 in horse.

1830 Census
1830: 8 September, (1) Lewis
personally appeared before a Judge of the Shelby Circuit Court, in open court,
being a court of record for the county of Shelby, In. The purpose was for his military pension. Lewis stated he
was 75 years old, which would put his birth abt 1755.
1830: 8 September, (1) Lewis
stated that he was a farmer but unable to pursue it.
1830: 8 September, (1) Lewis
stated the number of his family is 4. Judah Barlow age 75, Elizabeth Barlow age
28 (cripple), George Barlow age abt 12, and Bluford Barlow age abt 10.
1830:
13 Nov, (2) Shelby County, Indiana, William (x) Barlow, John Dawson and Joseph
Bishop declare they bought horses of Lewis Barlow.
1830: 8 September, (1) Lewis
signed the document with an X.
1831: 20 Jan, (2) Adair County,
Kentucky Joseph Callison of said county declares that in 1819 he purchased 100
acres is said county from Lewis Barlow. He obtained title to 1/2 of the land.
1832: 6 Nov, (2) John McDowell,
age 73, of Indiana declares Lewis served in the same unit and served 2 years.
1832: 3 September, (2) Lewis
declares he enlisted in Staunton, virginia (then living in Culpeper County) in
Sept 1776. He was discharged at West Point, New York.
Note (2) Lewis
was placed on the pension roll under the act of 1818. Certificate 21463 was issued
but was supended in 1830)
1833: (5) Certificate of
Pension, issued 4 April, 1833. Lewis collected #160.00. (pension application
has Lewis Barton and later the (ton) in Barton was crossed out and (low)
written over it) (2) was placed on the Indiana pension roll at $80.00 per annum
under the act of 1832. Certificate was issued 9 Apr 1833.
1833: Letter dated 22 May 1833
is attempting to get the mistake in his name corrected. At the bottom of the
letter the statement reads “ The old man is poor and very much need the money
due him”
1836: Lewis dies in Indiana.
(2) lived his last 12 years in Indiana.
1836: 27 Nov, An entry made in
Shelby Co. Probate Order Book B 1836-1842 page 93 & 94 ,to identify Juda
Barlow, widow of Lewis Barlow a Revolutionary War pensioner dtd 14 Aug, 1837
stated Lewis departed this life 27 Nov, 1836.
1837: 17 Apr, David Randolph
submits an Inventory of the goods, _ _ _ _, money and effects of the personal
estate of Lewis Barlow in the amount of $250.93.
1837: 16 Jun, David Randolph submits
a sale bill for the estate of Lewis Barlow in the amount of $103.94
1837: 5 Oct, David Randolph
received $5.00 for being in charge of making coffin.
1837: 6 Oct, David Randolph
received $1.00 for publishing notice.
1839: 26 Jun, William and
Jeremiah summoned to court in shelbyville on the second mon in August next, to
testify on behalf of the Plaintiff (themselves) and David Randolph
administrator of the defendant, Lewis Barlow.
