INDENTURE BETWEEN THE REED CHILDREN
Cornelius, Stephen & Elizabeth

LOUDOUN COUNTY DEEDS, 1790-1792, p. 43:

pp.8/9 - This Indenture made the thirteenth day of the Third month in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & ninety one Between Cornelius & Stephen Reed of the County of Loudoun of one part and Elizabeth Reed of the County aforesaid of other part.  Witnesseth that Cornelius & Stephen Reed in consideration of the sum of Five Shillings current money of Virginia to them in hand paid by Elizabeth Reed by these presents doth bargain and sellunto Elizabeth Reed all that tract of land situate in County of Loudoun and bounded as by a Survey thereeof made by Israel Janney.   Beginning at a Stone in a line of Colonel Taylors Land, Extending S(south) 3 & twenty minute E(as)T. one hundred fourteen and a half poles to a Stone in a line of Thomas Marks running with the same W(es)t. thirity one   & a half to several white Oaks in a level piece of Ground standing a line of the land formerly granted to John Mead, extending with said line N.(north) 2 E(as)t. seventy two to a white Oak saplin in said line standing South side of a small Drean, N 21 E. forthy five to Colonel Taylors line, thence with the same no. 80 deg. e. twenty & a half poles to the first station, containing nineteen acres one rood & twenty eight perches land and all houses orchards profits and appurtenances elonging.  To have and to hold the lands thereby conveyed unto Elizabeth Reed her assigns during the full term of one whole year paying the rent of one pepper corn on Lady Day next if demanded to the intent that by virtue of these presents and of the statute for transferring uses into possession Elizabeth Reed may be in actual possession of the premises & be thereby enabled to accept a release of the inheritance thereof.  In Witness whereof Cornelius & Stephen Reed hath hereunto set their hands & seals the day & year first above written.    Sealed & Delivered int he presence of: James Copeland, Thos Marks, John Poulton.  Signed by Cornelius Reed, Sarah Reed, Stephen Reed, Mary Reed.

At a Court held for Loudoun County May the 9th 1786
This Indenture was acknowledged by the parties thereto & ordered to be recorded, Teste: Chas Binns, Cl. Cur.


pp 10-12:  This Indenure made the fourteenth day of the Third Month in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety one between Cornelius & Stephen Reed & Sarah & Mary their Wives of County of Loudoun of one part and Elizabeth Reed of County aforesaid of other part.  Witnesseth that in consideration of the sum of Thirty eight pounds Seventeen shillings current money of Virginia to said Cornelius & Stephen Reed in hand paid by Elizabeth Reed, by these presents doth bargain and sell unto Elizabeth Reed (in her actual possession now being by virtue of a bargain and sale to here thereof made for one whole year and by force of statute for transferring uses into possession) and to her heirs all that tract of land lying in County of Loudoun bounded (the survey and description of the counds of the land as in the foregoing Lease):  To have and to hold the lands hereby conveyed unto Elizabeth Reed her heirs free and clear of and from all former gifts sales dower right & title of dower & Incumbrances whatsoever; the Quitrents hereafter to grow due and payable to the Proprietor of the Northern Neck of Virginia only excepted and foreprized); In Witness whereof Cornelius & Stephen Reed & Sarah & Mary their Wifes hath hereunto set their hands & seals the day & year first above written.

At Court held for Loudoun County May the 9th 1791.  This Indenture & the receipt thereon endorsed were acknowledged by the parties thereto the femes having been first privily examined as the Law directs voluntarily relinquished their rights of Dower in the lands herein contained & orderd to be recorded.  Teste:  Chas.
