1. Leonard1 Hall was born on 13 Aug 1730 Rockville, Prince George Co., MD  He married Joanna Litton (Letton\Lutton), daughter of Caleb Litton Sr. and Grace Burton, on 15 Jan 1750, Rock Chapel Church {Catholic} then in Prince George Co., MD.  {Now known as St. Pauls Chruch, Rock Creek Parish, Rock Creek Church Road and Wedster Street NW, Washington DC. - from Canie Litton Jr.}  {The records of this marriage was recorded in a family bible in 1943 by Minerva hamblin Letton, sponsored by the "Jermima Johnson Chapter, DAR, whereas she certified under oath that she copied the record as were listed in the Hall Bible." - from Canie Burns Litton Jr.  7 Oct 2000 (e-mail)}

Lytton Web Site

bluebullet1w.gif (295 bytes)The birth date of Leonard, birth and marriage dates of Johanna and the birth dates of their children came from a book, REMEMBERING THE PAST TO PRESERVE THE FUTURE, Captain Soloman Caleb Litton Sr., Ancestors and descendants of Russell County, Virginia, by Balfour Oliver Lytton Sr., pub. 1950.  Thanks to 1st, Daryl Lytton for telling us about this book and where it was housed - Russell County, VA, and 2nd to Nancy Hyatt whose diligence helped get us a copy of this book.  Then we have a followup on the book, A HISTORY OF THE LITTON FAMILIES ORIGINATING IN RUSSELL COUNTY, VIRGINIA, 1770 - 1970, by Canie Burns Litton Jr. and have been in touch via e-mail with Mr. Litton about verification of the birth, marriage and death dates of Leonard, Johanna, and their children.
Here is the content of his e-mail:  "Caleb and Grace Letton's children are listed in the baptism records of the Rock Capel Church (Catholic) in Prince George County, Maryland.  Johanna Polleckfield Letton, b. 7 July 1732, Rockville, Prince George County, Maryland, married Leonard Hall in Rockville, Maryland and migrated first to Cumberland, Maryland and then to Bedford Co., VA.  The records of this marriage was recorded in a family bible in possession of  [Paul Letton - Jackstown, KY] in 1943.   The records were transcribed by minerva Hamblin Letton (Mrs. James Harvey Letton) sponsored by the "Jermima Johnson Chapter, DAR., whereas she certified under oath that she copied the record as were listed in the Hall bible.  Also birth record can be obtained at the Catholic Church in Bedford Co., VA.  The Rock Creek Parish Church is now known as St. Pauls Church, Rock Creek Parish, Rock Creek Church Road and Webster Street NW, Washington DC, 20011.
Balfour O. Lytton certified by oath that he viewed the bible and other records of Leonard and Johanna Polleckfield Letton and made true and correct transcriptions of the same,   including the birth records.  The DAR national office in Washington DC would have these records.  Hope this helps,  Canie Burns Litton Jr,  7 October 2000"

He died after Apr 1808 Glascow, Barren Co., KY.

Notes found in letters from various Hall family members: In a letter written to Seth Hall: "You will find in the geneological Dept. - an Index Book - just names - traced through of course, not all in the Library that you are in- but - a I found a Hall name they didn't have any record of Leonard Hall, but the Librarian called SMU who did have and went out there next day. Then with what I found in Pasadena in the Henshaw Books - I really struck gold. The Quakers and Mormons have kept fine records - than any one else -"

"Mrs McCracken had all the names typed and on record - Frankfort, KY. She gave full credit to me - and to Ma with writing her book - The Library there said it was wonderful to get this information - as he was certainly a pioneer and did a lot in the years he lived to promote Statehood - We only found him in a history of Kentucky - through Land Grants he received. One young woman - saw the name traced in the City where the Lirbrary is - she being a direct decendent of Leonard Hall though didn't have the names to complete her record. She wrote a nice letter and thanked us all -"

"This page of notes - Look or ask - Colonial Families of the USA McKenzie - Can get this book for three weeks for information only at Library - In other words not a book used on the card system - They will put it on the shelf for me - I have prior use of it when I do come to read it - You can see it is hard for me to get to read it-"

"#One - about the Halls was beginning to tell by saying - Neely who really is Neal Hall - and "there was an Isham Hall" was the first time I had heard the name - I did remember it - so just stamped it there - next thing to drive up was a bunch in a wagon to eat dinner and so, I did not get to hear more -"

"The first name I found at Pasadena was a book - which seems to be one of the best, as it is often quoted - Isham Hall was a soldier in the Revolution - I did get his record to help prove Neal Hall was his nephew - Neal was in the War - 1812 - Never have found any record of it - The recorders all claim the records not kept - as of today - often were destroyed -" (Nancy's notes - not sure who wrote this letter to Seth, but it was written in the 1940's.)."
