Joseph Barnett Hall

One of the first lessons we all learn, especially in genealogy, is never take anything at face value. I pulled a "boner" when it came to the Hall family and the book LIFE & TIMES OF LEONARD HALL SR. Mr. Conner did such a thorough job of research that I never questioned the marriages of the children and had even passed on the book and the information to people. Thanks to several of our Hall researchers, we have now found that Mr. Conners was in error with at least the marriage of one Hall descendant - Barnett Hall, son of Leonard Hall Sr. I feel I owe those who are directly effected by this mistake a page of their own.

It seems that there were several Barnett Halls in KY during the early 1800s and I am going to put up everything I can find and let you sort them out. This may take some time to get all of the records up that have accumulated, so bear with me. Please if you have any to add, especially for dates before 1850, please help us help all of you sort out the Barnetts of Kentucky in the early 1800s. If you have anything you wish to contribute - I will be happy to put it up with your name attached .

Remember - this is NOT my research but that of several who have shared the information with me. Jackie was instrumental in finding the truth of Barnett Hall with help from Elaine and Lee. Lee is a descendent of one of the Other Barnett Halls, Jackie a descendant of our Leonard Jr. and Elaine a descendant of the Atkinson family. Others who have shared will be given at the beginning of their information.

Marriage Record, Lincoln Co., KY: Joseph Hall to Ann Barnett, dau. of John Barnett 31 Dec 1785. May have had a son that they named Jospeh Barnett Hall.

Mercer Co., KY: Sep 1800 - "by petition of Samuel Lowe, it is ordered that Martin Barnett, Solomon Barnett, James Barnett and Barnett Hall, or any three of them, being sworn to view the most convenient way for a road from the forks of the road above Thomas Clark's of Delany Road to the county line toward Adams' mill of Salt River. (Martin, Solomon & James were brothers and Barnett Hall was also a kinsman)

Mercer Co., KY: Feb 1813 - Barnett Hall bondsman for Charles Phillips and Sarah Bradshaw to be married. Solomon Barnett a witness.

Barnett Hall to Betsy Cooney, with Solomon Phillips as surety, 22 May 1815. Consent of Daniel Cooney for bride, same date and was witnessed by John Hall & Solomon Phillips.

Ohio Co., KY - Marriage - Aug 1826: Ann Willis Hall md Samuel Davenport 24 Aug 1826. Henry Will certified bride was of age. Polly Hall with, Barnett Hall as surety, consent of John Hall for his daughter and witnesses Ancil Hall and Barnett Hall.

Ohio Co., KY - Inventory & Appraisal of Personal Estate, 1819 & 1820, certified 1827: done by John Ward, Joiah Haynes and Barnett Hall.

Ohio Co., KY - Will Book B, p. 90: Will of John Hall, written Jun 1835 and giving wife Sally Hall all of his property and she can "dispose" of it as she sees proper", James Miller and David Barnett witnesses. Will contested by Barnett Hall, March 1837

Ohio Co., KY - Will of Sally Hall: May 1839, probated Jan 1842 leaves the property to her two sons, David Hall and Martin Barnett Hall.

***** Barnett Hall / Mariah Atkinson have been established as the Barnett Hall, son of Leonard Hall Jr.

Bobbie Ruth sent me this lineage of the Joseph Barnett Hall who died in Waveland, AR, 1887. Showing that he married Elizabeth (Betsy) Cooney, b. 1811, KY?, and d. abt 1881, Waveland, Yell Co., AR and is buried at Moores Chappel, Waveland, Yell Co., AR.

1	Elijah⁴ Hall was born Indiana? 1824. Elijah died circa 1840.
2	Johnson Hall was born Indiana? 1825. Johnson died circa 1851 in Sugar Grove, Loagan Co., AR. He married three times. He married Jane Davis. He married Cordella Ladd circa 1844. He married Ruth Ladd circa 1850.
3	Barnett Hall was born in Indiana 1827. Barnett died 18 Jul 1879 in Waveland, AR, at 52 years of age. His body was interred July 1879 in Hall Cem., Yell Co., AR. He married Willa Armenta Cole circa 1847.
4	Edward Hall was born in Vincennes, Knox Co., IN 22 May 1829. Edward died 25 May 1897 in Waveland, AR, at 68 years of age. His body was interred May 1897 in Moores Chapel, Waveland, AR. He married twice. He married Lucienda (Unknown) Hall in Yell Co., AR, 16 Jul 1866. Lucienda was born in Alabama 1831. Lucienda died circa 1870 in AR. He married Missouri Ann Haire in Yell Co., AR, 19 Nov 1872. Missouri was born in NC 1849. Missouri died 1 May 1904 in Caddo, Atoka Co., OK, at 54 years of age. Her body was interred May 1904 in Waveland, AR. Edward's occupation: Farmer.
5	Pricilla Hall was born in Indiana 1832.
6	Alford Hall was born in IN? 1834. He married Mary Jane Rogers circa 1854.
7	Nellie Hall was born in IN? circa 1836. She married Mr. Priest in AR?.
8	George Hall was born in IN? circa 1838.
9	Savinah Hall was born in AR 1840.
10	William B. Hall was born in AR 1842. William died 1867 at 25 years of age
