HISTORY OF THE MILL CREEK CHURCH

The first Mill Creek Church was built around 1891 of logs by the people living in the community: namely, Taylors, Worleys, Neals, Gilreaths, Ballous, Morgans and others.

The house was built about where Aunt Nannie Vanover's barn now stands but burned around 1901. Then the new house was built in 1902, about where the present building stands, by the people. On November 29, 1907, Mrs. Ellen Sawyer and children, Mary, Dan and Samuel made a deed for 1 and 1/2 acres to the Trustees and their successors of the Methodist Church. The deed was recorded December 24, 1907.

The church was dedicated in 1911.

Some of the teachers were: Emma Ballou, Lou Ballou, Alex Denton, Albert Farris, Nora Huff, Mrs. Timothy Daarr and daughter Maud, Mary Tanner, Billy Wilder, and Wiley Gilreath.

Some of the ministers were: Allen and Joe Ballou, Mark Strunk, Mason, Mike Freeman, Cranshaw, Timothy Darr, John W. Sears, George Shadoan, Sanford, Bud Rogers Payne, and many others.
