William Burns Clay County Kentucky pension application

This is an overview of the Revolutionary War pension application of William 
Burns.  Pension claim #s.16669.


William Burns was born in the state of Virginia, no dates given

He enlisted in Pittsylvania county, Virginia
Served as a private against the Cherokee Indians, in Captain Joseph Martins
company in Colonel Christie's Virginia regiment, and was discharged at 
the Long Islands of Holston in Tennessee having served nine months.
He enlisted the same day that he was discharged and served six months in
Captain Martins company under Major Bletcher in defense of the frontier.

Shortly before the battle of Ramsour's Mill, he enlisted in Wilkes county
North Carolina to serve in Captain Micajah Lewis's company in Colonel 
Gordon's North Carolina regiment, soon after his enlistment he hired a 
substitute, Jonathan Hickman, to serve in his staed.  He gave no dates of 
any of his service, but stated that all of his service was rendered prior
to the battle of King's Mountain.

He was allowed pension on his application executed October 23, 1832, than
a resident of Clay Co. Kentucky and was seventy six years of age.

Personal Note:  76 in 1832 he would have been born 1756.
