Loran Alonzo Waldroup and his family were still in Gordon Co, GA in 1870 but sometime before 1872, they moved to Missouri. They are
listed on the 1880 Washington Co, MO census. Before 1894, this family
moved to Texas. Many of the children married in Waxahachie, Ellis Co, TX.
They were in Wise Co, TX in 1900.
When the Indian lands were opened up in Oklahoma, they moved to Holdenville, Hughes Co, Ok where they lived until they died.
Loran Alonzo Waldroup served in the Confederate 40th Georgia Infantry along
with several of the CHASE men. He was in the battle of
Chancellorsville. He suffered a shoulder wound. He was captured in Resaca
GA and was sent to Rock Island Prison. He was promoted to Sergeant and served in the 19th GA
Volunteers. He took the oath of allegiance to the U.S. and was
assigned to Frontier Service.
My grandfather Clyde WALDROUP moved back to Texas as a young man
and married Willie Lee LOOPER. They raised their family in Irving,
Texas.
My mother is one of their children.
Speculation:
Listed on the 1860 Gordon Co, GA census near the Chase family and Loran Alonzo Waldroup are the James OWENS family. James OWENS
is a descendant of Prishy WALDROUP and James OWENS of North
Carolina.
I believe somehow, Loran is related to this line of the Waldroup family. If
anyone has any information to prove or disprove this theory, please, please
let me know.
In 1860 Calhoun, Gordon Co, GA is a Cain WALDROOP with wife
Johanna.
I believe Loran is related to this family in some way. His first child
was named Johanna and was called Josie. Maybe Cain is a brother to Loran's father????
**There is an old family story. Don't know if it is true but this is what has
been passed down:
Loran's ancestors were from England. His father left on a ship to go back to
England to take care of some family business and was never heard of again.
It is possible this is true and Loran's mother remarried. This could be why
I cannot find Loran on an 1850 census anywhere. Maybe he is listed under
her new married name.
