JOHN HULET (HEWLETT, HUGHLETT), JR.

JOHN HULET (HEWLETT, HUGHLETT), JR.
Northumberland County, Virginia
1660 - 1711

John Hulet, Jr. (son of John and Susannah Hulet and brother of Thomas) was born about 1660. His will was dated October 19, 1704, recorded 1711. He is the John, Jr. named in the suit of Elizabeth Hughlett Downing and seems to have inherited the bulk of his father's estate, perhaps because the son Thomas had no male heirs.

This John (1660-1711) married about 1683, it is said by descendants, a daughter of John Carter who came to Virginia about 1649 and died June 10, 1669. (Her name was Elizabeth or Eleanor Carter.) As John Carter married five times it is difficult to straighten out the children.

The will of John Hughlett of 1704 names children: John; Ephraim; William; Elizabeth. However, see Virginia Colonial Abstracts, Vol. 3, Northumberland County, Virginia, 1661-1810 by Beverley Fleet, Page 56. Names more children. Gives dates of each. (The will in full is available.) Will proved January 18, 1711.

Children given in Virginia Colonial Abstracts: John, born August 7, 1684; Ephraim and his issue given; William; Garrett and children; Elizabeth; (Winifred not given here but named in will); Porter (?) hard to decipher.
