| Stephen and William Matlock 1775 appear on a deed on Granny/s Quarter Creek, east of the Wateree River, north of Camden, SC. Another Stephen Matlock b. abt 1773 but I don't know where. Lived in Orangeburg, SC in 1788, he is on a deed with John Duke buying land on Altamaha River in Liberty Co. GA. He is only abt 14 and John Duke is older. In 1799 the land is fully deeded to them. Later when Stephen is on age John Duke transfers his interest in the land to Stephen. Also, John Duke is on SC Census as a head of household before he marries and he has a teenage male living with him which could have been Stephen. He could have been an orphan and John Duke a relative or guardian, who took him in. Stephen remains in Tattnall Co until his death in 1853. It took 6 years to settle his estate and I have many legal papers regarding his land and his estate. John Matlock b. abt 1820 Tattnall Co. son of Stephen Matlock and Mary Stanley. He appears on a gift deed in 1838 and later he must have disinherited by his father because he is not in the list of heirs and he sues the adm of the estate in 1856. Charles Matlock f. abt 1841, a minor when his father, Stephen Matlock dies in Tattnall Co. He attended Georgia Military School, Marietta Ga 1857-58. | LMHall@houston.rr.com |

| I descend from John Calvin Matlock (born Apr. 15, 1815) in Knox county, TN through his son Benjamin Franklin Matlock (born Jan. 31, 1842) who settled in Shelby county, IL. John Calvin Matlock's father was a John Matlock who married Priscilla Polly Scott on Dec. 8, 1806, but I have not been able to confirm who was this John Matlock's father. I suspect it was John Wesley Matlock born in 1759 in Halifax county, Virginia but I would like to confirm it via records or a DNA connection. | Mark Matlock |
