Drouin Collection: Quebec Vital and Church Records (Drouin Collection), 1621-1967: Until the late 1900s, church registers in Quebec served as civil and vital records in that province.  Throughout the years a second copy of church records, from all denominations, was sent annually to the appropriate courthouse.

During the 1940s the vital record collections in courthouses throughout Quebec were filmed by the Institut Généalogique Drouin.*  The filming of vital records continued for some areas up through the 1960s.  Consequently, this filmed set of records became known as the Drouin Collection.

Corr. from Caroline Choppin: The inclusion here of the ancestry of Emily Mears would not be possible without the work of Caroline Cell Choppin whose research provided the critical link between the published material about the early generations and Emily Mears.  Her thoughtfulness in sharing this research by entering it into the Family History Library Ancestral File and responding to my letter made her research accessible to us.  She says that her sources included correspondence with cousins and "three large pages of butcher paper - which were in my Aunt's barn attic - and contain all the names and most dates for the descendants of Lucy Rockwell."

McKaig Birthday Book: Robert Louis Stevenson Birthday Book, Dodge Publishing Co., New York, in Shirley York Anderson private collection. The book is undated. It perhaps precedes other editions dated 1909 and 1950.

A collection of short extracts from the various writings of Robert Louis Stevenson, one for each day of the year. Each page has a printed border and three sections. The sections on the left hand page contain a date -month and day - and a Stevenson writing. The sections on the right hand page are printed blank - these were used for recording birthdays. The book has a brown suede binding which has been mended.

The book contains hand-written entries, both by Mary Beith (McKaig) York and her daughter Florence York. Some are in other handwriting and appear to be the signature of the birthday person (e.g. JHW York, August 11th). The birthday people are primarily relatives of Mary Beith (McKaig) York, but there are some York relatives also.
