Digital Historical Maps
Maps and geographic archives are important sources for the study of local history, and they are often works of art in their own right. They can also be of great practical use. The material can be used for preservation of values from a since long disappeared man-made landscape or to re-discover natural features, based on the information recorded by past generations. Perhaps you can find the house there your ancestors lived!

This page has lists of all Counties (amter), Districts (Herreder) and Parishes (Sogne) in Denmark. Crossreferences between the lists makes it possible to find the District in a County and the Parishes in the District. The Counties lists has clickable maps, that gives an overview over the County and fast access to the Districs in the County.

Kort & Matrikelstyrelsen
The best map for overall coverage of Denmark is the 1:100.00 Topographic Atlas. It is a book about 12 inches square with 60 double pages of maps and a very good index, and it shows larger buildings and farms outside built-up areas. For further details in an area of special interest there are individual sheets, scale 1:25.000, four of which correspond to a half page in the Atlas. These sheets show every single building. Prices are 375 DKK for the Atlas and 65 DKK for a 1:25.000 sheet. Mailing charges to the US for the Atlas is about 100 DKK. Orders may be placed by mail, phone or via their homepage. One more thing. When you click on "Map Shops" on their home page, one expects to go to that page. But you must then mouse down and click on "Maps" before anything happens. To go to their genealogy section, click on "Facts about Denmark" and then mouse down and click on "Genealogy" then at the top, click on "Map of Denmark" and that will take you to a place where you can get to various on-line maps.
