The LDS Family History Library at Salt Lake City is staffed with volunteers who are very knowlegeable in their specialties. I made next to no progress in Danish genealogy until I spent a couple of weeks in Salt Lake City. The volunteers at the local Family History Center (FHC) may be proficient in local genealogy, they may be able to draw from their own reseach experience, or they may be able to tell you little more than how to load the microfilm in the reader. Don't expect anyone to know anything about Denmark unless it is in a Scandinavian community.

The LDS Family History Library catalog page contains the entire Family History Center Library Catalog on-line and free. That means that you can find what they have and the correct microfilm or microfische number from the comfort of your own computer! To find the numbers for the microfilmed parish records, type in the name of the place your ancestor was born. Once you find the number of the roll of microfilm you need, write it down and take it to your nearest FHC and they will order it for you. Cost is between three and four dollars for each roll and they have been known to take up to three months to be delivered.

The International Genealogical Index search page. There is a link on this page that explains how to conduct a search if you need help. The index is part of the FamilySearch software program produced by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The International Genealogical Index (IGI) lists several hundred million names of deceased persons from throughout the world. The index does not contain records of living people.

This is a listing of LDS Family History Centers generated from data sent by the Family History Center address submission form. The listing is nowhere near complete and readers are invited to submit information about any FHC's with which they are familiar. Family History Centers are listed according to state and there is a short listing of those FHC's that maintain a website.
