Latrobe City (formerly known as La Trobe Shire until March 2000) consists of the former Cities of Moe, Morwell and Traralgon and the former Shire of Traralgon, the Yallourn North district (and a minor area west of the Moe township) of the former Shire of Narracan, and the Glengarry and Toongabbie districts of the former Shire of Rosedale. Established 2nd December 1994. 1395sq miles
Historical records from the former municipalities are held by the Latrobe City and access is available by writing to the Latrobe City, PO Box 345, Traralgon. Many of these records are held off site in different locations, so it is important to write first, describing in detail the records you want.
Published histories : There have been no general histories of the Latrobe Valley published. Published works have tended to focus on individual towns and districts.
Two books which cover specific aspects of the Valleys History are :
The settling of Gippsland a regional history by Patrick Morgan, and
Latrobe Valley heritage study by Johnston, Chris.
