Carl Steiss was born in the Alsace-Lorraine area of Germany around 1735-1745. He arrived in Philadelphia aboard the ship Nancy in 1754, and is best known now as Charles Stice, the patriarch of the Stice family. He continued to migrate, settling in North Carolina and Kentucky, where he died. With his wife, Caty, he had 12 children and they left thousands of descendants.
