Archibald McTaggart was a farm servant in Inverkip, Scotland. Archibald and Catherine traveled to Canada in 1856 on the steamship, St. Lawrence, owned by the Allan Steamship Co. For 128 days, a young married group came by sailboat and wagon. They settled for 1 year in Waterdown, and then moved to Osprey Township, to the Pretty River Valley, 18 miles south of Collingwood, Ontario, Canada. By 1861, they were living in a 1 family, 1 story log house. They had 10 Children, five blondes and 5 brunettes. He lived longer than 8 of his children and his wife.

Note: Birth record was at Kilmeny parish. It was recorded on March 6, 1835. It states, "Born 12, June, 1834, or thereabouts." No wonder it is difficult to find records!

According to the marriage records in the parish of Blantyre, County of Lanark, Archibald and Catherine were both farm servants from Inverkip when they married. She was listed as a spinster and he a bachelor. I believe this is the correct couple as the witness is Euphemia McTaggart, the name of his sister. It is possible that they were married in Blantyre because could be the home parish of the McNicol family

Malcom McTaggart

Note: Malcomb was the 1st child of Archibald and Catherine McTaggart. He drowned in the shipwreck of the Steamship Algoma on Lake Superior on October 5,1886. He was possibly married to Margaret Bonds. He had no children.
