John Gilchrist
Born 12
January 1827, in Cragabus on the Oa.
He came with his parents,
William and Sarah Gilchrist, to Glengarry, Ontario in 1833; and then
to Oro township in 1834. John left Ontario at the young age of 14
for Wisconsin, and married in 1854. John served as a soldier in the
Civil War, and lived out his life in South Dakota and Minnesota.
John died in 1909.
