2.18.99   I do have Alexander McDougall who married Catherine McQueen, b.1844 (d/o Neil McQueen b. 1792 Islay and Margaret Patterson).   The McQueens came from Islay to Nottawasaga Twp., Ontario in 1833/34, so this may be where Alexander and Catherine
settled, but I'm not sure at this point. Shelley Hilton

2.22.99   I am looking for information about my aancestors, the Molloys. Some left Jura in the late 1700's to settle in North Carolina. Leslie Raimond

2.24.99   My dark family secret is that I descend from three generations of Excisemen - two of which were stationed in Bowmore from the 1810s to the 1830s (deepest regrets & profuse apologies for my ancestry to all you single malt fanciers - I will remind you that Bobbie
Burns was a "rascally gauger" as well).

I have two of my Excisemen being rotated to Bowmore and marrying local girls:

Robert HAMILTON married Elizabeth DOUGLAS on November 27, 1811.
Their offspring were:  Charlotte, Flora Anne, Elizabeth Douglas, Charles, and Mary.

Their daughter, Charlotte HAMILTON, married Samuel ARIS on May 24, 1837.

Samuel & Charlotte were subsequently "removed" away from Islay as part of Excise rotation policy.

However, Elizabeth HAMILTON (nee DOUGLAS)  still appears on the 1841 census on the main street in Bowmore with two unmarried daughters:  Flora Ann HAMILTON and Mary HAMILTON.

I would appreciate any additional information on the above individuals.  If any of these lines sound familiar, please contact me. Cheers - Mark Howells
