My name is Lucy Gilchrist Saavedra. I was born in Chiloe Island in the Southern part of Chile. My grand father Neil Gilchist Lindsay, and my grand mother, Isabella Leighton MacCulloch, came from Scotland around 1886 when they were youngsters. The family of my grand father came from the Isle of Mull and the family of my grand mother from Edinburgh They met while travelling by sea in a ship when the families arrived at Chile. I heard from my grand father that they belonged to the Ogilvie Clan. I heard also that they decided to live in Scotland because of the hard life in the charcoal mines. Some of them were sick and received medical advice to leave Scotland and that environment. At this time Chile started a colonization period, giving land, and they enrolled in this opportunity. They arrived in a place called Huillinco close to Ancud the capital of the island at that time. My grand father was Great British consul for many years. From this marriage were born : Agnes, Macolm (my father), Neil , George and Mary (twins) Duncan and Isabella,. Today still alive Agnes (2 girls) Neil living in Colombia (12 children); Duncan (three boys); and Isabella (three boys and one girl). My father had two boys and myself and he passed away 3 years ago. George had three boys and Mary one boy and two girls and they passed away relatively young (cancer problems). One of my cousin visited the Isle of Mull two years ago and he went to the whisky factory were my great grand father was working. The factory still exists and they have his record. I have some pictures of the cemetery were my great grand parents rest and my grand parents and my father too. I can also find more information with my uncles during my vacations. I know that some part of the familly are alive in Scotland. I am living in Mexico and working in an International Agriculture Center, but all my family lives in Chile today. I am married and have a son and a daughter. I hope this information is a good start.
