The Latta Plantation

This is an interesting little site set in Mecklenburg County, NC.  It is the home page of the James Latta Plantation, active in the early 1800s which is now a living history site.

What makes this an interesting site is that it does more than just show off the plantation house...it has a little history of the area, of various types of people, planters, small farmers, slaves, and helps give you an idea of the look and feel of what life might have seemed like at a time when many of our ancestors were starting on the path from the east coast to various points in the South and beyond.

If you are interested, be sure to check out all the links.  It's not heavy history, but the buildings have been restored carefully to look as authentic as possible...and it makes me glad for my nice range and built in oven and microwave...we really need to look at the old kitchens and tools to help us appreciate modern life!
