John Scott son of Wm. Scott of Isle of Wight Co. announcing to the man's Meeting held at Leavy Neck his intention of marrying Joan Took , the daughter of Thomas Took appears at a meeting with his bride and displays his marriage certificate. The meetings before which he and his intended had appeared, having objected to the marriage on the ground that Joan Took was not a Friend accordingly disowned said John Scott . Signed in behalf of the Meeting by James Jordan, Henry Wiggs, Richard Jordan, Benj. Jordan, Richd. Rattcliff, Jr., Sam Cornwell, John Took, Matth. Small, Dan Sanburn, Isaac Rickes, Thomas Page, Richard Ratcliff, Sr., Robert Jordan, Matt. Jordan, John Jordan, John Small, John Porter, Benj. Small, Ben Chapman. John Harris a witness to the above marriage writes to a meeting held 12 day of the 7 mo. 1706 regretting the part he took in this above marriage. William Scott Sr. father of above John Scott, in a letter to the Meeting dated 12 day of 1 mo. 1706 , acknowledges his consent to his sons mrriage and after regretting that he has violated the rules of the society joins in disowning the marriage. In the year 1707 the above John Scott writes a letter of repentance to the Meeting in which he asks forgiveness for marrying in the way he did and states that when he became engaged he thought Joan Took was a Friend and belonged to Pagan Creek Meeting, but finding that she was not he took her against the will of his people. 13 day 4 mo. 1706.
