This Indenture made the 14th day of Febry. And in year of our Lord Christ One thousand seven hundred & Forty
eight between John Chiswell Gent. In Parish of St. Martin in County of Hanover and Colony of Virginia of one part
& LAWRENCE SMALL of Parish of Saint Anns in County of Albemarle in Colony aforesaid of other part witnesseth
that John Chiswell for sum of Ten pounds current money of Virginia to him paid do sell unto Lawrence Small his
heirs one certain parcel of land containing Two hundred acres being in County of Albemarle on the Branches of Corbins
Creek of Rockfish near the Blue Mountains and bounded beginning at James Barnets corner dogwood runing thence North
East to an Oak saplin between pointers, thence South East to a Spanish Oak saplin in John Reids line, thence South
West to a chestnut tree, thence North West to the first station, being part of Eleven thousand One hundred &
forth acres granted to John Chiswell by Patent bearing date the twenty sixth day of March 1739, to have and to
hold said tract of land containing two hundred acres as above bounded with all houses, buildings, waters belonging
to the only proper use and behoof of him said Lawrence Small his heirs and assigns forever. In Witness whereof

In the Name of God Amen. The twenty fourth day of October in the Year of our Lord God one thousand seven hundred
Fifty & one, I James Robertson of the Parish of St. Anns in County of Albemarle being veryt sick & wesk
in body bot of perfect mind & memory that's be given unto God, therefore calling to mind the mortality of my
body & knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make & ordain this my last Will & Testament,
That is to say, Principally & first of all.
I give &

Recommend my soul into the hands of God that give it & my body I recommend to the Earth to be buried in a Christian
like & decent manner at the discretion of my executor, nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall
receive the same again byu the Mighty Power of God & as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hat pleased
God to bless me with in this life, I give bequeath dispose of the same in the following manner & form.
Imprimis, I give & bequeath to Rebeckah, my dearly beloved Wife, whom I constitute make & ordain my only
& sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament my house & Plantation with two hundred & forty acres
of land her lifetime, provided she remains a widow & her choice of the best bed & furniture thereof &
my own saddle horse & her choice of two of the best cows & all of my sheep together with all the putter
pots and other vessals so belonging to my house.
Item I give & bequeath to my well beloved son, William Robertson, one hundred & sixty acres of land which
he now lives upon to be laid off as followeth (Vizt) Beginning at my scrubby black oad corner running from thence
a straight course so as to include his fields & making a corner against the middle of his field runing from
thence a cross the next branch & up the next fork to my field of said branch, extending so far as to include
the aforesaid quantity of land,l but I do hereby order and allow that if my son William, die without male issue
before coming to the years of maturity that then the above land shall relaps to my son, Thomas Robertson, &
his heirs or assigns, also his horse & saddle & one young stallion colt of a roan colour one year old.
Item I give & bequeath to my well beloved son, James Robertson, my house & Plantation of Two Hundred &
forty acres of land at his Mother's death or when her right is out by virtue of this my Will and Testament, but
I hereby do provide order & allow that when my son, James, comes to enjoy sd plantation that he shall pay or
cause to be paid unto my son, Thomas Robertson, the just & full sum of Twenty pounds current money out of the
said plantation as his part & patrimony of my estate.
Item I give & bequeath to my well beloved children (Vizt) Martha Robertson, Jean Robertson, Rebeckah Robertson,
Mary Robertson, Sarah Robertson, Esther Robertson, Elizabeth robertson, Susanna Robertson all the remiander of
my goods & chattles, cows, hogs, horses, mares, waggons, bridle, furniture together with the rest of my hourshold
furniture not heretofore yet bequeather & the same to be given & devised to these my above said female
children at the discretion of my executor always provided that funeral charges & other debts be first paid
(on margin of page 37), very hard to read () provided that his wife Elizabeth shall enjoy the benefit of said land
and estate while she remains a widow.
Item I give and bequeath to my well beloved son, Matthew Robertson, Two hundred and forty acres of land as it well
best answer of that part of my land lying nest to James Bells for the only use of him and his heirs.
Item I allow & order that my son, Matthew Robertson, have my Loom & tacklings & his rifle gun &
myt son, James Robertson, my own smooth bored gun, & I do hereby utterly disallow revoke disanul all &
every other former testaments, wills & legacies requests & executors by me in any ways before this time
named willed & bequeathed, ratifying & contirming this & no other to be my last will and testament.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal the day & year above written

Rebecca Robertson widow, executrix therein named, & proved by the oaths of John Reid & Samuel Bell, two
of the witnesses thereto, & ordered to be recorded & on motion of the said Exr. Who made oath according
to Law a Certificate is granted her for obtaining a probat thereof in due form giving security on which she with
JOHN SMALL and Michael Montgomery her securities entered into and acknowledged their bond for the said Rebecca's
due & faithful performance of the said Will.
Note: prior to his death, James Robertson made a Deed of Gift for L38 to his
wife Rebecca dated December 27th, 1760 selling her 265 acres including buildings
and improvements, likely their martial property on Taylors Creek, a branch of
the Rockfish River. Whether this was the same property mentioned in his will was
not researched.

fifth year of Reign of our Sovereign Lord Lord George the second &c between John Chiswell Gent. Of Parish of
St. Martin in County of Hanover & colony of Virginia of one part & Michael Montgomery of Parish of St.
Anns & County of Albemarle & colony aforesaid of other part Witnesseth that John Chiswell for sum of Fifty
pounds current money of Virginia to him paid hath sold unto Michael Montgomery his heirs one certain parcel ofland
containing five hundred acres being on south side of Rockfish river & being part of a larger tract containing
eleven thousand one hundred & forty acres granted to John Chiswell by patent bearing date at Williamsburg one
thousand seven hundred & thirty nine & is bounded beginning at a hiccory at the mouth of Davis's Creek
upon the south side of Rockfish River thence running up the same north west to a red oak saplin upon the river,
thence north west to pointers in Joseph Barrnets line, thence on said line south west to pointers, thence on new
lines south east to a hiccory saplin, then north east to pointers at a corner of Frances Wrights, thence on Frances
Wrights line north east to the first station to have and to hold the said tract of land with all houses waters
& every part thereof & all the estate, right of said tract of land unto Michael Montgomery his heirs &
assigns forever in witness whereof John Chiswell hath set his hean & seal

him paid doth sell unto Samuel Bell his heirs one certain parcell of land containing One hgundred & sixty acres
being on the South Branchesd of Rockfish River being part of a larger tract containing Three hundred & fifty
acres granted to Samuel Murriel by Patent bearing date at Williamsburg One thousand seven hundred Forty & seven
June the Twenty fifth & is bounded beginning at pointers of said Samuel Murriels in Colo. Chiswells line &
runing thence on Colo. Chiswells line North East to said Samuel Bells pointers in said line, thence a new line

twenty sixth year of reign of our sovereign Lord Goerge the second &c Between Alexander Montgomery of Parish
of St. Ann & County of Albemarle of one part & John Montgomery of same Parish & County on other part
Witnesseth that Alexander Montgomery for sum of Twenty Shillings current money of Virginia to him paid together
with the Love good will & affection which I the above named Alexander Montgomery do bear to my loving son,
John Montgomer, hath sold unto John Montgomery his heeirs one certain parcel of land containing three hundred thirty
six acres of land being part of six hundred & forth acres of land which Alexander Montgomery purchased of Colo.
John Chiswell the residue being part of a tract granted to said Alexander Mongomery by Patent bearing date ye (bland)
one thousand seven hundred forty & seven being in County of Albemarle on buck Creek, a branch of Rockfish River
bounded beginning at a Corner white oad of Alexander mongomery in Colo. Chiswells line & running thence on
said mongomerys line south west corssing a branch to poointers in the said line, new lines north west to a white
oak saplin, north east to pointers on john Chiswells line along the same south east to pointers of Alexander Montgomery
thence on his line south west to several bushes, north west crossing buck creek to a white oak saplin in Chiswells
line & thence on his line south east to the first station to have & to hold said tract of land with all
houses inclosures waters & every part & all estate, right of Alexander mongomery to possess & enjoy

money of Virginia to him paid doth sell John Miller his heirs one certain parcel of land containing two hundred
& sixty acres being in County of Albemarle on Rockfish River near the Blue Mountains and bounded beginning
at Samuel Bells corner hickory on the river next to JOHN SMALLs and with his line South & West to pointers
thence on new lines North & West to pointers North & West to a red oak in the said Samuel Bells line and
with his lines North & East to pointers South & East to a hiccory on the river thence down the river according

This Indenture made the twenty seventh day of December in the year of our Lord
one thousand seven hundred and Sixty. Between James Robertson of the Parish of
Saint Anns and County of Albemarle of one part and Rebecka Robertson Widow and
Relict of James Jobertson deceased of the same Parish & County.
Witnesseth that James Robertson for the sum of Thirty eight pounds current money
of Virginia to him paid doth sell unto Rebecka Robertson her heirs a certain
parcel of land containing two hundred and sixty five acres of land (more or
less). Lying in the County of Albemarle on Taylors Creek a branch of Rockfish
River bounded Beginning at a Shrubby Black oak running North & East to a red oak
North & East to pointers North & West. To Matthew Robertson's corner tree thence
South & West to a white oak, thence South thirty five degrees East two hundred
and forty poles to the first station being part of a larger tract granted to
John Chiswell of Hanover County Gent by Patent and by the said Chiswell conveyed
to James Robertson by a Deed of Sale in fee simple and the said Robertson by his
last Will & Testament Willed and bequeathed the above mentioned tract of land as
above bound unto his Son James Robertson and his heirs and assigns�
