At present, South Union has a museum, only 3 buildings remain of the more than 100 buildings erected in the community. According to the present director of the museum there are only 3 Shakers alive today, (1975), and all have deserted the area due to advanced age. The Shaker religion was doomed from its beginning due to its strict rules and discouraging sexual relationships, no marriage was ever performed in the community during its life, hense, members stayed awhile, but moved on when they attained sexual maturity in most cases. Membership within the community depended on new individuals joining.

By 1995 the three survivers had also passed away.

Napoleon and Dinwiddie are brothers visiting their father in Louisville 1834, possibly Henry? Napoleon leaves shakers in 1829, listed as youth. Napoleon trotting , left again, listed as 18 in 1831-1814 notations by Eads list many deaths due to cold plague, that hit many children that year. According to the Dinwiddie Bible, Henry and Pollie were married 1810. Polly Small comes to the community with her children in1822, goes with 8 children to Nancy Rankin for confession. This assumes that the 8 children were all hers, and she and children went to confession shortly after coming to the community to rid themselves of whatever sin they had since coming in from "the world." In the same statement it says James Small went to Sameul Eads for confession, he may have been a 9th child, old enough to seek council from a man rather than a woman like the younger children.
