1. ANDREW1 SMALL was born Abt. 1715 in Portmoak, Kinross Co., Scotland. He married MARGARET NORVAL Bet. 1737
- 1741 in Portmoak Scotland. She was born Abt. 1715 in Portmoak Co., Scotland.
Notes for ANDREW SMALL:
Andrew Small from the Scots Ancestry Research Society, Jan 16, 1957 searched the old parochial register of Portmoak
from the date of commencement in 1703 up to 1723. The birth of Andrew Small was not recorded. The regular record
for portmoak commences in 1713, but there are a few earlier entries, prefaced by the following remarks; "Baptisms
since Whitsunday 1702, diligently collected together and inserted into this book, but there are a great many of
them lost by the negligence of those who have officiated as Clerk, until the year 1713". A later letter says
"You will note that Andrew Small was a Seceder. Kinross was a great stronghold of the Secession Church, which
arose out of an Act passed by the General Assembly in 1732 relating to the settlement of vacant charges by which
the right of popular election was destroyed.......Chief among the Secessionist ministers was Rev'd Ebenezer Erskine
minister of Portmoak from 1703-31 "Perhaps this is why there is no record of birth for Andrew due to the
upheaval in the Church of Scotland.
