William "Swede" Mahlke, 74, of Elyria, formerly of West Salem, died Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at Elyria Memorial Hospital, from heart disease.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem, with Pastor Robert Holmes officiating. Burial will be at West Salem Cemetery.

Friends may call Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home, where a Masonic service will be held at 8:45 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, 1689 E. 115th St., Cleveland 44106.

He was born July 12, 1925, in West Salem to William and Sylvia (Schaub) Mahlke and married Marguerite Ball on Sept. 6, 1946. She survives.

Other survivors include children, Randy Mahlke and his wife, Johnna, of New Pittsburg and Jeanine Walton of Ashland; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sisters, Hilda Hetsler of Ashland, Thelma Kirk of West Salem, Hazel Lowry of Columbus and Betty Thompson of Sandusky.
