SEVILLE - Melvin Robert Swank, 76, of Seville, went home to be with the Lord, after a short and ravaging fight with cancer, Saturday, September 20, 2003, at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Canaan Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund.

He was born Oct. 27, 1926, in Irish Valley, Pa. to Samuel and Eva Swank, both who are deceased.

He was preceded in death by his bride of 53 years, Emma Jane (Crowl) Swank who died of Alzheimers disease in 1999.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was a retired truck driver from Consolidated Freight where he worked from 1952-1985.

He was a member of Canaan Free Will Baptist Church and the Ashland Antique Tractor Club.

Mel leaves behind six children, W. Barry Swank (Maxine) of Medina, Linda Swank-Header (Carl) of Medina, Cathy J. Swank of Seville, Robert E. Swank (Nadine) of Seville, Jody B. Swank (Stacy) of Burbank and Lori D. Swank-Skinner (Rick) of Union City; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Arlene Swank-Diefenbach of Lewisburg, Pa. and his Canaan Free Will Baptist Church Family.

Pop loved his family dearly. He loved old-time country music, listening to the Representative Gospel Quartet as well as a good Pittsburgh Pirates game while sitting around a campfire. He was a man of few words and unbound integrity.

In the last hours of his life, he was at home surrounded by his six children, many grandchildren and very dear friends while members of the quartet he loved so much sang “Take Me Home Precious Lord.” Today Pops resides in heaven with his beautiful bride and the Lord. “So long Pop, until we meet again.”
