CONGRESS - Merlin LeRoy Garver, 81, of Congress, died Monday, Sept. 6, 2004, at his home.

Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem, with Pastor Christopher Cottrel officiating. Burial will be at Congress Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by the James Stevenson American Legion Post 499 of West Salem.

Friends may call Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Congress Community Church Building Fund, 192 N. Main St., West Salem 44287.

He was born Feb. 12, 1923, in Congress to Merle and Mable (Horner) Garver and was adopted by Eddie and Clara Garver.

He had attended Burbank and Congress High Schools and was a veteran of World War II, having served with the 71st Division Battery B 564th Field Artillery as a sergeant.

He was a well-known cattle dealer for more than 67 years and was owner of Merlin L. Garver Inc.

He was a member of Wooster Elks Lodge and Wooster Moose Lodge.

Surviving are children, Patricia Myers of Columbus and M. Jan Garver of Wooster; grandchildren, Gregory Myers of Columbus, Melissa Garver of New York, Scott Garver of Akron and Emily Garver of Wooster.

His wives, Ann Semai Garver and Lila Staser Garver, sons Mark Staser and Mitchell Kent Garver and sisters, Gaye Dreager and Violet Garver, died previously.

The family would like to thank special friends, Mary Hites, Robert Christian and Hospice & Palliative Care of Greater Wayne County.
