When I checked my great-great uncle's grave site I noticed someone has gotten his information incorrect. The name is John J. Kauffman and he is buried at Hazzard Cemetery in Congress Twp., Wayne County, Ohio. The age is correct, but the service information is wrong. This John Kauffman served in the 2nd Ohio Cavalry. He first enlisted as a private on August 25, 1861. On October 14, 1861 he joined Company M, of the 2nd Ohio Cavalry. On February 17, 1863 he transferred to Company G, 2nd Ohio Cavalry. He was promoted to a Full Corporal on August 22, 1865 and was mustered out on September 11, 1865 in St. Louis, Missouri. It states on his tomestone he was a member of the Ohio 2nd Cavalry. He died of comsumption on June 27, 1871 in Polk, Ohio

I think the confusion is there was another John Kauffman who lived in Polk, Ohio. He is the one who served in the 196 O.V.I. Company A and served from March 1865 to September 1865. My Great-great Uncle actually enlisted from Richland County, and after the war was over, came to Polk, Ohio because my Great-great grandparents had moved to Polk while he was in the war.

I have copies of his pension papers that my Great-great Aunt filed to receive his war pension. I also have a picture of his tomestone which shows Co. G 2. O.C.
