WEST SALEM - James L. Hines, 69, of West Salem, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service in Akron.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem, with the Rev. Beryl Baum and Pastor Marta Mathatas officiating. Burial will be at Congress Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by James Stevenson American Legion Post 499 of West Salem.

Friends may call Thursday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

He was born June 21, 1934, in Wayne County to Elmer and Mildred (Gault) Hines and married Shirley Mowrer. She survives.

He had served in the U.S. Army Reserves and was owner/operator of Hines Body Shop in West Salem.

He was a member of West Salem United Methodist Church and James Stevenson American Legion Post 499 of West Salem.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are children, Larry (Lynette) Hines of West Virginia, Ronald (Debora) Hines of West Salem and Debrah Hines of California; seven grandchildren; brothers, Robert (LaVonne) Hines and Donald (Juanita) Hines, both of West Salem, Ellsworth (Ann) Hines and Eugene (Judy) Hines, both of Wooster; and sisters, Dorothy Dickinson and Betty (Ted) Workinger, both of West Salem and Beryl (Robert) Baum of Jeromesville.

A brother, Doyle Hines and a sister, Janie Hines, died previously.
