WEST SALEM - James F. “Sandy” Sanford, 75, of West Salem, died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, at Samaritan Regional Health System, Ashland.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem with Pastor Marta Mathatas officiating. Burial will be at West Salem Cemetery with military rites conducted by James Stevenson Post 499 of West Salem.

Friends may call Friday from 7-8:30 p.m. and one hour prior to the services at the funeral home on Saturday.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1605 County Road 1095, Ashland 44805.

He was born April 18, 1928, in Lodi to Tom and Dorothy (Burrough) Sanford.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He retired in 1986 from the State Department of Transportation.

He was a member of AMVETS Post 149 of Polk, Medina Moose, Seville Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion of Jeromesville.

Surviving are his wife, Carol (McCollum) Sanford, whom he married Nov. 6, 1971; three stepchildren, Kim (Val) Boales of Texas, Debbie (Jack) Hecker of Ashland and Rhonda Sanford of California; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a half-brother, Robert Sanford of Ashland and a half-sister, Patricia Kennedy of Cincinnati.
