BIG PRAIRIE -- George S. "Speedy" Read, 79, of Big Prairie, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2007, at his home.

Memorial services will be Thursday, Oct. 11, at 11 a.m. at Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem, with Pastor Patricia Lintela officiating. Burial will be at West Salem Cemetery, with military rites conducted by James Stevenson American Legion Post 499 of West Salem.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be given to the donor of your choice.

He was born Aug. 6, 1928, in West Salem, the son of Lewis and Edna (Hubler) Read.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He retired in 1995 from Rexroth in Wooster.

He was a member of Killbuck Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion in Fredericksburg.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Speedy and Sherri Read of West Salem and George and Stacy Read of Big Prairie; six grandchildren, and a sister, Oneta Fetzer of Seville

In addition to his parents, his wife, Margaret Read, died in 1986.
