Oscar Glenwood Silver


Oscar Glenwood Silver, 90, New Germany, formerly of Watford, passed away Monday, November 25, 2002, at his daughter’s home. Born in Watford, he was a son of the late Charles and Alice (Lantz) Silver. He was a carpenter and worked for various companies. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Upper Northfield. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving are his daughter Marlene (Arnold Jr.) Demone, New Germany; son Allister (Frances) Silver, Scarsdale; daughter-in-law Betty Silver, Watford; nine grandchildren, Janet Demone, Joanne DeLong, Jamie Demone, Jerry Silver, Kevin Silver, Bonnie Meisner, Tina Silver, Danielle Conway, Nicole Crocker; 13 great-grandchildren, Lukas and Amber; Cody and Emma; Kerstyn and Mason; Brett and Shelby; Michael, Dylan and Brandon; Keesha and Jenna; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Ruth Spidle, and son Douglas; brother Foster; half-brothers James, Percy and Stanley; half-sisters Nellie, Beulah and Della. The body rested at Sweeny’s Funeral Home, New Germany.

Funeral service was held in Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Upper Northfield, Thursday, November 28, 2002, at 2 p.m., with Rev. William Gustafson officiating. Hymns sung were "Saviour, Like a Shepherd Lead Us" and "Jesus, The Very Thought of You". Granddaughters Janet and Joanne gave the eulogy, which also included writings and memories from Jerry, Tina, Danielle and Nicole. Pallbearers were Ray Fuller, Murray Beck, James Conrad, Waldo Morton, Roger Leary and Bryden Snyder. Interment was at Upper Northfield Cemetery.

Floral tributes: Casket and ledge spray - children Marlene, Junior, Allister, Frances and Betty; vase of cut flowers - grandchildren Janet, Joanne, Jamie, Jerry, Kevin, Bonnie, Tina, Danielle and Nicole; vase of cut flowers - great-grandchildren Lukas and Amber; Cody and Emma; Kerstyn and Mason; Brett and Shelby; Michael, Dylan and Brandon; Keesha and Jenna; basket - niece and nephew Gail and Gordon; heart - God-daughter Brenda, Blaine and family; vase of carnations - Mauritius. Memorial donations were made to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Upper Northfield United Church; St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church; St. Paul’s Lutheran Church; Epworth United Church; Trinity Lutheran Church: Trinity Lutheran Organ Fund; Rosedale Home for Special Care: New Germany and Area Medical Centre and IWK Children’s Hospital.

CARD OF THANKS The family would like to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to all those who helped in any way during the loss of our loved one.
