Beatrice Rocelia Silver


Beatrice Rocelia Silver, 88, formerly of West Northfield and Riverside Apartments, New Germany, passed away June 14, 2000, in the Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care, Lunenburg. Born February 17, 1912, in Baker’s Settlement, she was a daughter of the late Z. Forman and Hattie Viola (Darr) Robar, and foster daughter of the late Albertha Dauphinee.

She used to hook mats, tat and quilt. She took prizes at the exhibition for her preserves and baked goods. She loved going on the Ferris wheel, even in her later years. She enjoyed gardening, animals, especially cats. She took music lessons and also taught; she played guitar, piano, organ and accordion. She was a long-time member of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church where she was organist for many years; also played at a number of other Lunenburg County churches.

She is survived by daughters, Florence Wentzell, Bridgewater; Pearl (Dale) Arenburg, Midville Branch; son, David (Beverly), West Northfield; half-sisters, Millie Hirtle, Bridgewater; Marguerite (John) VanDinther, Thornhill, Ontario; Shirley (Walter) Hirtle, Mahone Bay; Audrey (George) Wilson, Peterborough, Ontario; half-brothers, Mel and Gary (Debbie) Robar, Bridgewater; grandsons, Todd and Alan Arenburg, Troy (Dawn) and Noel Wentzell; Jeffrey and Scott Silver; granddaughter, Natalie (Scott) Fancy; great-grandsons, Travis and Devyn Wentzell; son-in-law, Hector Wentzell, Midville Branch; sisters-in-law, Esther Robar, Cookville; Olive (Ivan) Bolivar, Middlewood; Fran Robar, Bridgewater; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband, Joseph; brothers, Clyde and Reginald; sister, Gladys Hubley; half brothers, Ray and Lester.

The body rested at Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral service was held at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, West Northfield, on Saturday, June 17, 2000 at 11 a.m., Rev. Gloria McClure-Fraser officiating, assisted by Rev. Catherine Robar, and organist Lana Veinotte. Some of her favourite hymns were sung, “The Lord’s My Shepherd”, “What a Friend We Have In Jesus” and “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee”. Interment followed in Maple Grove Cemetery, West Northfield. Pallbearers were her six grandsons.
