SWAYNE, CHERYL A. (nee Lechner), 47, of Petersburg,
passed away at her home, April 17, after a courageous
battle with cancer. Born in Philadelphia, as the
daughter of a military family, she did extensive
traveling before settling in this area in 1973.
As a direct descendant of both the Somers and Braddock
families, through her grandfather, William E.B. Carr
of Somers Point, Cheryl was both an avid genealogist
and member of the Atlantic County Historical Society.
She is survived by her husband Robert T.J. Swayne; her
four children, Heath Layton and wife Karen of
Seaville, Robert Layton of Egg Harbor Township,
Nicholas Layton and companion Stephanie Nelson of
Steelmantown, and Kayla Layton and companion Joe Dress
of Tuckahoe.
She is also survived by her parents, Gordon and Grace
Lechner of Egg Harbor Township; her brother, Gary
Lechner and wife Nathalie of Tuckahoe; and sister
Debbie Rockelmann and husband Richard of Egg Harbor
Township. She was also blessed with three
grandchildren, Austin Dress, Abigayle Layton, and Kira
Layton, and many nieces and nephews.
She loved the outdoors, kayaking, camping, Native
American culture photography, and traveling.
Friends and family are welcome to attend an informal
memorial gathering planned on Sunday, the 27th of
April at the Corbin House Restaurant, Rt 50, Corbin
City from 4:00-6:00. Contributions can be made in her
