Kenneth A. Sixbury, 74, North Main Street, lifelong resident of Evans Mills and retired school custodian, died Wednesday morning in the emergency room of the House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown, after suffering an apparent heart attack.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Frederick Brothers Funeral Home with the Rev. Frances Grauman, pastor of the Evans Mills Episcopal Presbyterian Church, officiating. Spring burial will be in Evans Mills Cemetery.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Evans Mills Volunteer Fire Department or Ambulance Squad.

Surviving are his wife, Marie; two daughters, Mrs. James (Cynthia) Kirkby and Mrs. Thomas (Vicki) Newberry, both of Evans Mills, and three grandchildren and a great-grandson.

A sister, Ella Mae Sixbury, died in childhood, and a brother, Everett J. Sixbury, died Sept. 5, 1989.

He was born Feb. 4, 1917, in Evans Mills, a son of John and Ednah Bolton Sixbury. He was educated in Evans Mills schools.

Mr. Sixbury married Marie E. Washburn of Philadelphia April 28, 1938, at the Evans Mills Presbyterian Church with the Rev. George Combs officiating.

The couple was engaged in farming after their marriage. Mr. Sixbury also worked at the Vilas Lingenfelter Hardware and Plumbing Store.

He was a custodian at the Evans Mills branch of Indian River Central School for 23 years, retiring in 1980. In addition, he had been the proprietor of Sixbury's Sales and Service since the early 1960s.

Mr. Sixbury was a 56-year member of the Evans Mills Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Pisgah Masonic Lodge, Evans Mills, LeRay Senior Citizens, Clare Rod and Gun Club and the North Side Improvement League, Watertown. He was also an avid stock car fan and sportsman, and a former member of the LeRay Odd Fellows Lodge.
