DUNKIRK (NY) EVENING OBSERVER, FRIDAY, JULY 19, 1940
MAYVILLE GAS VICTIM IS DECLARED SUICIDE
Coroner Says Ill Health Caused C.B. Sixbey to Take Own Live.

Mayville, July 19-Despondency because of ill health was blamed today for the death of Carlton Buck Sixbey, 64, of Erie street, who was found dead of carbon monoxide poisoning in the garage at his residence Thursday night.
Coroner Samuel T. Bowers of Jamestown issued a certificate of death by suicide after conducting an investigation.
Indications were the act occurred some time after 9 a.m. Thursday, but the body was not discovered until about 8 p.m. when a son, Herman Sixbey, with whom the deceased man made his home., returned from work and found the body in the garage. Death apparently had occurred several hours previously.
Coroner Bowers said Mr. Sixbey had been in ill health for the past three years and had been despondent of late. It is believed that the illness was motive for the act. He was a carpenter by trade.
Surviving, in addition to the son mentioned are three other son, Carlton B. Sixbey of Amityville, Carl Sixbey of Lakewood, and Samuel Sixbey of Mayville; two daughters, Mrs. Marianna Blawal of Silver Creek and Mrs. Marietta Nesman of Jamestown; two brothers, Dewitt Sixbey of Boston, Mass., and Arthur W. Sixbey of Mayville, and three grandchildren.
