“Mr. Bleekman is a native of Stratford, Fulton County, New York, born in 1866, a son of Jerome and Henrietta (Sixbey) Bleekman. The father was graduated at Troy Polytechnic Institute as a civil engineer and surveyed the “north woods county” for the state of New York many years ago, when a large part of that region was a wilderness. Subsequently he removed with his family to Fort Wayne, Indiana, and it was in the public schools of this city that John E. Bleekman received his preliminary education…..”

Mrs. Henrietta Sixbey Bleekman 86 years old, widow of Jerome Bleekman, died at her home 623 West Creighton Avenue at 1:35 o’clock yesterday afternoon following a few days’ illness. Mrs. Bleekman was born at Salibury, Herkimer County, NY August 10, 1835, and she was the daughter of Colonel and Mrs. John sixbey.
Mrs. Bleekman was educated at Fairfield Seminary, Fairfield, NY. She was married November 25, 1858. She and her husband moved to Fort Wayne in 1873. A short time later they purchased a farm in southern Ohio, to which place they moved. After residing there for a few years, they moved to Gloyds Mills, north of the city and in 1906 returned to Fort Wayne.
Mrs. Bleekman, although not identified with organizations of any kind in the city was very well known. She took an exceptional interest in her home and besides rearing a family of three children of her own, made a home for six of her grandchildren after the death of their daughter.
Surviving are three children, Mrs. Olaf N. Guldlin of Fort Wayne; Arthur Bleekman, of Rarden, Ohio, and John E. Bleekman of New York City; eight grandchildren, Arthur, John, Robert, and Everett Bleekman, Mrs. Lester Hensinger, Mrs. Perry A. Barrett, Mrs. Henry Hull, and Henrietta Bleekman, and thirteen great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held from the home Saturday afternoon at a time to be announced later. Burial will be made in Lindenwood cemetery.
