and Family Research Page

This page is provided as a service for all genealogy and family history researchers of the surname which is spelled in a variety of ways, including, but not limited to:

JEFFREY, JEFFRIES, JEFFREYS, JEFFERY, JEFFERYS, JEFFERIES, JEFFRES, and JEFFRIS

The ancestral roots of the Jeffrey family may trace back to the Scottish English Border Ridings, and are perhaps of Strathclyde Briton origin.

The ancestral roots of the Jeffries, Jeffreys, Jeffery, Jefferys and Jefferies families may trace back to Welsh origins, perhaps originating in Herefordshire.

The ancestral roots of the Jeffres and Jeffris families seem to be of French origin.

    … However …
There have been numerous spelling variations of surnames in the past 250 years, especially within the United States. Thus, it is unsafe to assume that the present spelling of your surname indicates it has always been spelled that way, nor should you attempt to identify your origins simply on this basis.
