Explanation for address *Old Station No. 1012 from letter received from Chris Hicks of the Rugby Local History Research Group.
One detail you may not have picked up on was that 1012 Old Station was not
a normal address. Old Station was where the first railway station was built
in Rugby and then moved when it became a junction. The railway company used
the land to build houses they let to their workers.
So 1012 is London & North Western Railway Company House 1012 and
Goodman Warner was employed by the company. Earlstown is on the original
Liverpool to Manchester railway and was part of the LNWR system.
Elizabeth Warner and any of her children still at home would have had to
leave the house very quickly after Goodman's death.
The area is now a car-park for the Alstom Steam Turbine factory. I have a
photograph of the last couple of houses before they were demolished and
I will put this on the web site in the next couple of weeks.
