Being a Chester "girl" I knew Shirley during our school days and she was in Dominic's class at Chester High School. Was always happy to read her "page" or rather "pages". We always considered her a dear friends. Our hearts go out to her dear family. We will be making a donation in her name to the Chester Historical Society. Love and Prayers to you. Fay

Our deepest sympathy to our Bruso cousins. I can remember Aunt Shirley & Uncle Walter visiting our home in Pennsylvania when we were kids. I shared her interest in genealogy and very recently, one of my Yanoshak cousins asked about the Bruso side. I said I'd try to get in touch with Aunt Shirley because she would know the answers. Having lost our parents, Aunt Betty (Hickey), Aunt Jean (Bruso) and two of our Yanoshak uncles in the last five years, we deeply feel this generational loss and our prayers are with you.

Gram always had a kind word for everyone! I am deeply sadned by Gram's passing, but know that she is happy again with grandpa. My Grandma was a very special lady, she is beautiful, smart, loving and funny;it reminds me of a time when my sister and I were little, we were in the car with gram, she wasn't driving of course and she said "shit", my sister and I were like oh! gram you swore, she giggled her little giggle and said it was o.k. to say "shit" so we said it and said it,and boy,oh boy did we get in trouble, gram tried to explain to our parents that she said that would could say it but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't get us out of that one. Gram, I remember the first time you held your first greatgrandson, you looked like my son, inocent, helpless and scared; until I just put him in your arms you had the biggest smile on your face. Do you remember me and you talking about names for him? You said I should name him McCoy, and I said Gram that would sound funny, "Hi, I am Chacoy, and this is my son McCoy." But now I can't think of his name being any differnt then Tyse McCoy! Your such a smart and beautiful girl! I will love you and miss you always! Love, Chacoy

Words can't express how I'm feeling right now. I know in my Heart that mom is with My DAD and that makes me smile. (that is the first thing my sister Mary said to me.) Mom, you are going to be greatly missed by all. Going to miss your laugh, I remember that time you called Mary and I and you were laughing so hard because you had Peeps and Rootbeer... (I was visiting in Utah) You are my Hero Mom, I only hope I'm half the Mom, Grandma and when the time comes a Great Grandma that you are... Just know that I Love YOU and DAD very much. Take care you two. Love you always Susan

Thank you Shirley for sharing such a wonderful website with everyone. My husband and his family are all born and raised and until recently lived in the beautiful Berkshire town of North Adams. From reading the guest book entries I get the feeling you were a special kind of person with many qualities. It also seems as though you have passed on some of those qualities to your family, I must say then your time here has been well spent. Sincere Sympathy to your family

I was born 1935 in my grandmother's house on Sargent road in Washington Massachusetts, my father Matthew Richard Comerford was assigned to the CCC camp nearby where he met my mother in the early 1930s. My grandmother was Stella Methe grandfather was Joseph Methe they lived on upper Sargent road for many years. The Comerford's lived on valley road until 1946 when we moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts where I live now. I can remember seeing that beacon on Mount Greylock from my grandmother's window at night I did not know the significance of it until many years later. I still have relatives in Washington have been back there many times over the years. Regards Joseph Comerford Cambridge, Massachusetts

I am sorry to hear of Shirley's passing. My deepest condolences to her family. I had the honor and pleasure to converse with Shirley over the internet regarding her postcards of Monument Square, of which I had used on the website. She will be missed, but never forgotten. Her memory and her work will live on.

My Grandfather grew up in Chester, and lived there most of his life. Whene he retired he moved there and live in the old house that was attched to the Pease store. I went there as a young boy until my Grandfather died around 1968? I have always loved it there. We also owned a cottage in Becket that belonged to Frank Fay of Chester.

Dear Bruso Family, We are sorry to hear of Shirley's passing. For some reason, my Mom (Barbara) asked about your family while I was sitting at the computer and I did a search and came across this site. I have many fond memories of your Mom, particularly when we lived in Mainz Germany. She would send us (Wayne, Buddy and me) to the library to find her books to read. We always looked for the most obscure books but she invariably had read half the books we brought back. When Wayne and I went to WSU together, I remember Shirley reading Wayne's text books for pleasure. Sorry also to read about you Dad having passed away. As for the DeSha's we are all doing well and spread out around WA, OR, and CA. Dad (Charlie) died in 1983 but Mom (Barbara) is 81 and doing great. We all have been back to Germany several times and once I stopped in Finthen/Mainz to check out our old haunts. It was much the same. Sincerely, Wally

Somehow we missed hearing this news, and it has saddened us a great deal. Shirley contributed so much to the North Adams local history and genealogy community. She often bought items on ebay, scanned them, and then sent the originals to us here at the North Adams Public Library, greatly increasing our resources. She was an excellent researcher with a very generous heart, and we will miss her.
