Walton Family

The Walton Family of Marion Co., IA and Harrison Co., MO

John W. WALTON was born about 1825-32, possibly in Danville, Virginia.1  Census records are inconsistent re: John's age: in 1860 he was said to be 30, in 1870 his age was given as 38, and in 1880 he is listed as 55.  He first appears in the land records of Marion Co., Iowa in June, 1851.

He married (1) Susan Jane KOONS, daughter of Jasper KOONS and Mary GILLASPY, on 25 Jul 1858 in Marion Co., Iowa.  Susan died six weeks after the marriage.   On 1 Sep 1859, he married [2] Anna Amelia MORGAN, daughter of Solomon and Eliza MORGAN, who was born on 14 Jul 1839, in Maryland2 and died on 4 May 1905 in Harrison Co., Missouri.1.

John, Anna, and their children moved to Harrison Co., Missouri, in the fall of 1868, purchasing, for $2,400, 200 acres in Sections 20 and 21 of Township 65, from Solomon S. Williams and his wife Eliza A. Williams, and presumed siblings Phebe Williams and James M. Williams. (Harrison Co., MO, Deed Books S, p. 643 and T, p. 409). John W. divorced Amelia A. Walton on 6 Aug 1873 (Harrison Co. Circuit Court Book G, pp. 519-520).   The divorce order states "the conduct of the defendant toward plaintiff has been of such a nature as to render his life with her intolerable and that he is the innocent and injured party and defendant still failing to appear or say anything in bar of judgment..."   They remarried 11 Dec 1877 in Eagleville, Harrison Co., Missouri per Harrison Co. Marriage Book B, p. 361.  It is possible they divorced a second time after 1880, as Anna is not mentioned in John's will or probate papers. Children:
