Obituary Index Instructions

Explanation of Index and Instructions for Ordering Copies of Obituaries

Source: Bethany Republican Clipper Newspaper, Bethany, Missouri

Note that this is a PARTIAL INDEX: in some cases I do not have access to the newspaper, and in others I have not yet transcribed the information. At present, this index contains deaths published in late 1988, January through February 15, 1989, and January though September, 1990. I have not yet transcribed 1989 issues beyond 2/15/89.

There are often two obituaries for a person: the paper publishes death notices free of charge immediately after the death; the family can also choose to publish, for a fee, an obituary they have written - these can appear shortly after to months after the death. If there is a (2) after the entry, it means both the death notice and family obituary were published in the same issue. The paper frequently publishes obituaries for people who have long since moved from the county. The date is the date of publication, NOT the date of death. A woman's maiden name, when known, is in parentheses. If there is a ? after the name, it indicates the obituary states the woman had surviving brothers by that surname.

How to Order Copies:

I will send you a copy of specific obituaries in return for an SASE (Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope). (Donations for the cost of copies and driving to the post office are always appreciated but not required). Contact me by e-mail for further information; include the full name(s) and date(s) of publication in your request.
