The Reynolds Family: From County Leitrim, Ireland to Renfrew County, Canada

Bernard and Mary Reynolds and their children probably arrived in Upper Canada from Ireland in the late 1830s. They purchased a farm near Osceola in 1851. I do not know where they lived before 1851. Most of their descendants remained in or near Renfrew County for many generations. I would be delighted to hear from anyone who is descended from this Reynolds family or anyone with any knowledge of the family. Two sources deserve special recognition for contributing to this data. Carol Bennett McCuaig's book, Founding Families of Bromley Township (1996, Juniper Books Renfrew, Ontario), gave many leads on the early Irish Catholic settlers of Renfrew County. The Bromley book is one of a series on early Renfrew County pioneers, and I would strongly encourage anyone researching Renfrew families to purchase as many in this series as are relevant to their research. As well, Ray Burant has transcribed countless church records from the early days of Renfrew County and has data on thousands of early Renfrew pioneers. You can E-mail Ray at: [email protected]
