ETHEL TALLMAN Keokuk County IA

SHE WAS CLEANING AND OILING HER REVOLVER AND ACCIDENTALLY DISCHARGED A BULLET. HER DEATH WAS INSTANTANOUS. SHE WAS HIGHLY RESPECTED.

Keota Nov, 4-as word was passed from mouth mouth last Saturday afternoon of the accidental death of Ethel Tallman every face reflected horror that so strong a character in almost the life history of this town should meet so sad an ending. She had always deemed it an accomplishment to be adept at target shooting and fond of the sport took a certain pride in the handling of fire arms without the least fear. On Saturday afternoon at about 2:45 she thought to clean and oil her revolver and was so engaged on the side porch at the residence when this fatal accident took place. Harold Page was with her at the time and speedily a number of willing hands were there but that speedy messenger of death had done its work so well that Ethel Tallman known and loved by all within a radius of miles of Keota, had passed into the great beyond from whence no traveler returns.
We say known and loved by all- stop and think of the homes and of children this talented lady has helped and spread sunshine in.

Having taught in the public schools in the grammar grade for the last nine years, and the conscientious work conservative to modern ways of best getting control of the pupils mind, the natural ability she undoubtedly had to handle pupils of grade she taught where the mind was full of perception, blossoming into young man and womanhood, her influence, the good she did, will be long alive in the hearts of many of her old time scholars. Vocations in life for many of them will no doubt bring back memories of Ethel Tallman and the work she did in the public schools of Keota.

In society she was a star, a conversationalist rarely found. Her extensive traveling throughout the whole country enabled her with her perceptive and reflective faculties to converse intelligently on almost any subject of interest.

Keota places neath six feet of earth, wrapped calmly in the icy bounds of death one of the most intelligent, truest in thought, in deed and action of all womankind.

Ethel Tallman was born September 1, 1864. Funeral was held at the Presbyterian church Monday conducted by the Rev. Crozier and interment in Keota cemetery.
